  1. @David, indeed, moments like this make MJ feel like one of the most fleshed out love interests in superhero comics, that she went from this, to being happily married to him for a long time (and in a very committed relationship these days) really helps make her feel like a real person with an evolving personality and perspective. Knowing that a lot of her more callous moments were an act also makes her a lot more likeable, you can easily read this scene as her pushing Peter away because she doesn’t want to be burnt again.

  2. I’ve always kind of liked this scene…people are way too precious whenever MJ does something to break Peter’s heart (far more post-OMD than pre) but here it’s part of her character development and with the benefit of hindsight and knowing it all works out for them makes me appreciate it more. This and ASM#200 are my favourite Wolfman moments.
