PS4 Spider-Man Coming to Spidergeddon

Writer Christos Gage has confirmed that the PS4 Spider-Man will be in  his Spidergeddon mini series. The blacked out character from the previous image is indeed the white spider on the chest  Spider-Man from the Playstation 4 game. My guess was Dusk, but this will tie in nicely with the game and the ini-series. the game comes out on September 7th and the comic comes out on September 26th. Gage had this to say about including the character.

“Since I have been writing for the video game for the past three years (along with the ever-amazing Dan Slott, Jon Paquette, and Ben Arfmann), it seemed like a perfect time to bring that Pete into the mix,” Gage told Polygon by email. ”There are other reasons based in character that make some of the interactions between him and other Spider-folks really juicy and interesting, but I can’t say too much without spoiling the game. It’s great story fodder though — this is definitely not shoehorning a character in where he doesn’t belong. In fact, it seems like an important next step for him.”

Gage also said you don’t have to finish the game before you read the book.  However the Spidey that appears in the book has already gone through the games adventure.

Update: Marvel sent over this press release.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Swings Into Marvel Comics!

New York, NY—June 15, 2018— This September, to celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated blockbuster action video game Marvel’s Spider-Man exclusively on PlayStation 4, not only will the game’s version of the wall-crawler be showcased in a set of five variant covers, but he’ll also make his Marvel Comics in-continuity debut in the pages of SPIDERGEDDON #0!

How will the star of one of the most anticipated video games of 2018 enter the Marvel Universe, and what role will he play in the final chapter of SPIDER-VERSE? All will be revealed on September 26th by writer Christos Gage – who not only is the scribe of SPIDERGEDDON #0 but is also one of the co-writers of Marvel’s Spider-Man – and acclaimed artist Clayton Crain.

“Growing up as lifelong fans of the web-slinger, everyone on the Marvel Games, Insomniac Games and PlayStation teams are honored and thrilled that characters from Marvel’s Spider-Manare not only gracing all-new variant covers, but are also starring in an in-continuity Marvel Comics event,” said Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann. “While making the game we poured through hundreds of Spidey’s comics, which inspired our take on his many famous friends, foes, costumes and moments. For the creative process to come full circle and see our version of the characters now appear in the web-slinger’s latest comic book saga is a dream come true for these True Believers.”

“It’s been such an honor for all of us at Insomniac Games to bring the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler to the PlayStation 4, but to see our version of Spider-Man now swing to the pages of a Marvel comic and be featured in SPIDERGEDDON is something we could have never imagined,” said Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar. “We’re all web heads and super excited for the upcoming comics.”

  1. How come no one is pointing out “The Superior Spider-Man” in the background? I hope that’s not a spoiler for the game. For those still complaining about the costume. You start the game with the classic suit but it gets damaged and Peter creates the advanced (insomniac) suit at his new job which has not been revealed yet. (Most likely Oscorp.)

Insomniac has confirmed that you can switch suits at any time through the pause menu and they have also included a bunch more. You can also switch that suits custom power to another similar to “create-a-spider” from Spider-Man 2 Enter Electro on the ps1. You are not punished for not liking ANY spidey suit in this game.

  2. I really wonder why they didn’t make the massive Spider on the suit black, the white just contrasts way too much and looks like it doesn’t belong. Of course, most would’ve preferred just the original suit, but it’s now pretty clear that they changed it for variant covers and to give him a distinctive look in all these awful crossovers.

I do like how they seem to be committed to this Spider-Man for a while, I like the idea of one big game continuity more than all the jumping around Activision tended to do.

  3. I’M looking forward to the game so I think this is really cool. Spider-Man has had a bunch of different suits so that doesn’t bother me to bad. If he just looked like 616 spidey it might get confusing. I do like that he is in the comics now so hopefully we see a bunch of sequels for the game and maybe some tie-in comics for this world. I mean, I don’t normally care about other realities in comics but this is different. I really want to love this series of games and the lore is a nice added bonus

  4. Yep. I knew the dumb new suit was all about marketing and, in the end, cold, hard cash. I’m getting more and more ticked that they didn’t stick with a more classic suit. It’s one huge knock against the game, in my opinion, and it reeks like Arkham Knight with the developers’ apparent “we know best” mentality.
