Superior Spider-Man? His best? I don’t think so. Replacing Peter with Doc Ock was wrong on so many levels!
That being said, Slott did write some good stuff. Spider-Man/Human Torch: I’m With Stupid and the first few issues of the Parker Industries arc comes to mind.
I’m actually surprised at how negative some of the comments on the video are, I know Youtube comments are notoriously angry, but it’s weirdly cathartic in this case considering how much blind praise he gets in some circles.
Renew Your Vows is definitely my favourite Slott story since he took over ASM, but the fact that so few of his stories have even come close to that level of quality (which I’d say is bordering on greatness and held back only by a naff villain and resolution) doesn’t look great for him considering the sheer amount he’s written.
In terms of his Spidey stuff overall, his Spider-Man/Human Torch miniseries is great, I read it as a kid, and it’s been a story I’ve consistently re-read and enjoyed since. In retrospect though, it did often have the dumber hot-headed version of Spider-Man that he’d go on to write so often, it’s just that it’s easier to be forgiving of it because Peter has always been a little less clear-headed around the Torch, they bring out the worst in each other like with any good friendly rivalry. With that in mind, I’d have much preferred to have seen him write an ongoing team up book with them as opposed to the main title.
