Cobwebs #49.1: March Madness – Best Spidey Suit Opening Round

Listen up True Believers! It is March Madness and here is the first ever Crawlspace March Madness Bracket! Below are 32 Spider-Man suits that 616 Spidey has worn in continuity. Your task? Pick the best one!

That’s right, dear reader! YOU are in charge on this Cobwebs post. YOU will vote! YOU will decide!  Costume Shop with Doc Ock Harness or Web PitsStealth Suit or Iron SpiderAmazing Bag Man or Black Suit? Of course, in the end, there can be only one!

What are the rules? Simple. You decide which suit you like best between the match-ups presented. Not familiar with that one? Click VIEW MATCH-UP and read a small blurb that I have painstakingly written for each one.  I have also included the first appearance (and in some cases, the only appearance) of the suit so that you can boot up that Marvel Unlimited or dig through those long boxes to read again.

Please note – this is not necessarily the suit you wish to ALWAYS see Spidey in – just your FAVORITE one.

  1. Thanks, Adam! I wonder if the artists just didn’t like drawing them or just forgot at times. Oh well! The pits are great, but the suit’s good without them too! You get the extra credit and a GOLD STAR on your Crawlspace chart (we keep one here in the Crawlspace office – currently JR has the most stars, but George believes that he’s adding them to the chart when no one is looking)!

Thanks Chi-Town Spidey! I’m sure you did your part to keep the Die Spinne suit in the running!

  2. I imagine this took a long time to put together. Great work Mark!

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the web-pits went away. A contender might be ASM #50, since aside from two panels, they’re completely absent when Peter’s in the suit. However, in the post-Ditko issues, they seem to appear and disappear between panels. ASM #100 doesn’t have them at all, but they appear again in later issues. It seems like the early ’70s are when they started to be phased out.

  3. I used to watch brackets like this on GameFaqs. And just like GameFaqs, you made sure to place the most likely winners on opposite ends of the brackets to stretch it out. Good job! 😉
