Geek.Com are reporting some interesting news about Captain America: Civil War. I’ll put it after the break if anyone wants to avoid potential spoilers.
A source has told Geek.Com Spider-Man will be on Iron Man’s side in the upcoming installment in the MCU. This source says that Tony Stark has been keeping a “watchful eye over the who’s who of the superhero world,” leading to him hunting down vigilante Peter Parker for help. He will offer Peter ‘an advanced Spider-suit to fight in — an upgrade from whatever 15-year-old Peter was previously slinging around in’ – hmm, I wonder what that could be? Apparently Peter will be on Team Iron Man because “Peter started becoming Spidey because he grew up and idolized Tony.”
Keep in mind that this is just rumors at the moment so do take it with a pinch of salt. I’m sure we will get a proper look at Civil War Spidey in the near future. But for now, what do you think of these possible developments to Spidey’s origin story? Are you excited about the potential inclusion of the Iron Spider suit?
Another thing that may affect things is just how dirty are they willing to get Tony in the movies vs the comics.
They could have Pete being given or offered the suit; then seeing that Tony is just using it as a means to study his abilities, like in the comics.
However, if they remove that sinister Trojan gift aspect, there would need to be a compelling reason for Pete to switch.
If the movie is Civil War done right without the mind controlled super villains, imprisonment without trial, and the inability to shrink Tom Foster after death because…why the heck could they not do that?…I digress. If it’s actually a good debate, then I can only guess it would be due to Cap worship if they go with Pete from Amazing Spider-Man -1 (The Flashback issue).

Weren’t we promised a hoodie? 😉
I don’t think that’s the case.
The Russo Brothers stated that Black Panther and Spider-Man will be on opposing sides of the conflict. And that Spider-Man will come in after sides have already been chosen. And we’ve already seen in the previews Black Panther kicking the Winter Soldier-which tells me that the Panther is on Iron Man’s side. Which means that Spidey is likely siding with Cap.
Which makes sense. This IS Cap’s movie after all. Having a subplot about Iron Man recruiting Spider-Man would really take away from Cap’s story.
I think that having young Peter in the MCU idolizing Tony makes enough sense. Tony’s a scientist and celebrity and millionaire, what about that wouldn’t appeal to a science nerd like high school Peter?
In my mind, I see the end of the movie – a montage of the fall out of the fight between heroes – in a flash we see a dejected Peter Parer removing his “iron spider” suit in disgust.
