Spider-Man Co-Creator Steve Ditko recently wrote back to Spider-Fan Marvin Hoover. Hoover wanted to get Ditko’s opinion about Marvel “stealing Spider-Man from him over the years.” Ditko wrote him back last month with this hand written note. He recently posted the letter in the Ditko Facebook Fan page.

Ditko probably doesn’t care. But you can’t be 100% sure. I know I’d be kind of miffed if someone was posting private letters. I’m just saying…
@15 – I’m sure Ditko spends every morning checking his Google alerts to see if anyone on the internet has mentioned his name.
@13, I doubt that Ditko really cares. Hoover is far from the first to share letters from him, and it’s not like the letter contains anything confidential.
Im sure hes really upset about it. I bet hes trying to hunt me down right now. What was i thinking..
How does he feel about you sharing his private correspondence? Did he give you permission to share these publicly?
@11 – I’m sure every month Brad is scrounging for some news about Ditko to talk about on the podcast. Last month he thought he didn’t have any but found some halfway through the podcast.
Brad must be thrilled to have something to talk about for Ditko News 😛 😀
One would think that despite the bitterness over the disagreement, that maybe Ditko should be PROUD of his creation and how famous he is now across the world thanks to the movies, the comics and the animated series. I mean, one can’t be Bitter for THAT LONG. I mean even Marvel acknowledge him when it came to Spidey’s 50th anniversary. I mean I would have thought he got over it by now and try to embrace the fame that his creation has gotten him. 🙁
So his attitude towards his departure from Spider-Man is still the same. Wow that’s a Shock…….
It’s nice to know that Steve writes his letter’s in character as the Question though.
I wrote to him telling him happy birthday and then asked him if the reason why he left marvel was because of his disagreement with stan over green goblins identity. This was his reaponse.
yes ditko is officially considered the co creator of spiderman. And honestly i dont believe steve cares about the money. If he did he could make millions doing conventions and he chooses not to.
His attitude seems to be, it was what it was. Isn’t he formally recognized now by Marvel as SM’s co- creator? There must be some money attached to that recognition.
@3 Can you post that letter talking about the Goblin? It would be interesting…
@3 What does he say about the Green Goblin in the letter?
I may write to him some day. Even if his reply is short, I’ll still feel happy that he replied at all.
I wrote the letter to ditko. And it is well know that steve returns fan mail. It is not a fake. I have written him a few times over the last few years and he always writes back. The letters are usually real short and to the point depending on his mood that day. I do have a full page letter from him talking about green goblin.
The second sentence seems weirdly worded. Has anyone seen the letter that was addressed to Ditko?
Today in Ditko Newwwwwwwsssssss …
No coffee stains on this letter – I smell a fake … when I should be smelling Folgers.
