November brings the last issues of the excellent Superior Foes of Spider-Man and the story-challenged New Warriors, which features Kaine.
Superior ends with #17, New Warriors ends with #12.
Either way, congrats to both titles for getting to #12 without being rebooted and/or renumbered.
And congrats to Nick Spencer, Steve Lieber and all the folks who brought us Superior Foes. I cannot stress how excellent the series was. Hopefully we’ll get to see more from the Sinister Several someday!

Okay, I may have missed a step. but hasn’t Superior Foes been “Cancelled” before?
I prefer New Warriors to Superior Foes, but losing both is a pity.

#4 – your comments sum up the series exactly right. I am so glad my LCBS suggested I buy issue #1. I stuck with it and I am glad I did. It was well written and always good for a laugh. I am sorry to see it go. But it does open room on my monthly pull list…hmmm…what should I replace it with???
Superior Foes ending is a sad loss. It was a great book that was saved at the last moment from ending with issue 14 but seeing it go 3 more issues. I feel we will get a better pay off with the characters. Going to miss it. New Warriors, Thank The Lord. What a horrible horrible relaunch of a series I use to love. This was just badly done, what was Yost thinking? He is a much better writer than this.
Wow… I wish I could say I was surprised, but we all knew this was inevitable. When this serise was first announced in April 2013, I was on board right away. I saw nearly every web site make fun of this book when it was announced. People saying “It will never sell.” Or “Who would read a book with these losers.” And “Ha! Shocker is the only recognizable character in your book.” I still had faith this would succeed. I’m a huge fan of C-list villians. Like Nick Spencer, I always felt that villians like those were “Working class villians.” They weren’t big shots like Doctor Octopus or Green Goblin, they were just guys who hoped they could pull a score and than kick back at “The Bar With No Name” at the end of the day. They always seemded human. Another thing that really got my interest was that Boomerang would be our protagnoist. This blew my mind. I was a huge fan of Fred Myers for years. This is maninly due to one of my first Spider-Man comics feautring him in it. He just always come off like this arrogant jerk who thought himself such a big shot. He was the kind of character you want to fail, yet can’t help but root for him. Plus he had a really cool (but ridiculous) costume (I love his new one a lot). There was a time between 2010-2012 where Boomerang wasn’t in the Spider-Man titles. Not even a background character in “The Bar With No Name.” I’m pretty sure around this time, I was the only Spidey fan who went: “I sure miss Boomerang!” I found out later he was in Jeff Parker’s Thunderbolts (Where he first got his awesome new costume) and am trying to collect that. When Superior Spider-Man issue 1 came out which introduced the new Sinister Six (when they were atcually “six” due to Living Brain’s inclusion) I was so thrilled to see this group of C-listers assembled. Boomerang, Speed Demon, Shocker (who can be argued is b-list), Beetle (Janice Lincoln, before she was fleshed out by the brilliant Nick Spencer) and Overdrive (who I thought was always the more harmless of the Brand New Day villians). After that the serise was announced and we came full circle. Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber have created a great title. Month after month I was delighted to follow the (mis-)adventures of the “Sinister Several.” Spencer and Lieber were an excellent collaborative team that really gave us memorable moments and gags (even small ones in background). While I was skeptical of Shocker’s treatment at the start (Herman has also been a personal favorite) I later chalked it up to Spencer and Lieber provin that sekptisim unwarrented. All that talk about Shocker being a “coward” makes sense when we keep in mind that Fred is a tottaly “Unreliable narrator.” Everything in this serise is from Fred’s Point of View, so we should always know that Fred is not the most reliable fellow. I can go on rambling forever, but I’ll just wrap it up saying: Spencer and Lieber did great work with the “Sinister Several.” They made The Chameleon and the Owl scary figures of the criminal underworld. They actaully touched up on Fred and Abners “Friendship/partnership” back in the Syndicate days. And they told such engaging stories. I’m glad they got to end the serise the way they wanted and I will always remember this serise fondly.
I feel bad because I just finished listening to the satellite podcast and was reading its message board thread and Brad had just asked someone to start doing front-page reviews of NW. Then a day (?) later the book officially gets cancelled.
On the other hand, cancelling New Warriors feels like a mercy-kill.
I was apprehensive about picking up SFoSM for just this reason, I suspected the book would soon be cancelled. But Kevin and George’s rave reviews drew me in and it quickly became my favorite book of each month. And of course it has come to pass that it’s getting cancelled, despite my hopes. Thanks Marvel – this is why we can’t have nice things!
