Spider-Man legend John Romita has penciled his first Superman cover in his historic career. His son John Romita Jr. is penciling the main Superman book, so it’s only natural for the father to come out of retirement to pencil the variant cover of Superman #34. The cover looks very similar to the Amazing Spider-Man # 1 variant that recently came out. The Hollywood Reporter has an interview with Romita Senior, check it out.

(Man I miss Supes’ classic look… I could get use to the new look but more importantly his character just isn’t the same..)
@#4 Jack — Agreed. I’m not a fan of the New 52 Superman costume, either (especially with it’s high, militaristic collar as opposed to the low neck line where the cap is attached to, something which even the Man of Steel movie costume got right). But even so, this is definitely one of the better illustrations of Supes new duds I’ve seen.
Man I wish JR was still illustrating a monthly book. But I gotta say I’m not too keen on this modern digital coloring and inking, much prefer Romita’s pencils with the classic style.
Great picture, but dislike Superman’s armor-like costume.
D***! He’s still got it!
Man, Superman looks like a young Ben Parker
That’s cool it’s his first, but Superman isn’t the same comic it used to be. We complain about the retcon of Spidey, but D.C. basically started from the beginning. Totally turned me off to reading another of their titles again, especially Superman.
