Is This Thing On? *Tap Tap*

“I just flew in, and boy are my arms tired…”

Hey Crawlspacers! Wanted to interrupt for a quick minute and duck my head in during Crawlspace Support Week.

You know before I was ever doing anything as part of this site, I was a fan. I’d come here because I knew J.R. from working with him on a different site many moons ago. It was when the news broke about what was definitely going to happen during the terrible and rightly vilified ‘One More Day’ story. I needed to hear what J.R.’t take was so I found him on here.

What I got, however, was so much more. I found other people who loved Spidey as much as I did. Good people. I also made friends. Yet more importantly I made a new best friend – Brad Douglas. My Spider-Brother from another Mother.

What Brad has created here, all on his own dime, is a place where Spider-Fans feel free to talk about the stories, issues, editorial direction and other topics. I remember when we had refugees come here from other sites, including Marvel’s own forums, when those sites started to discourage people from discussing how bad things had (and have) gotten for the character. Hell, there was a time when Marvel’s forums were banning folks for even talking about OMD. I kid you not.

Crawlspace has hot new heights the last couple of months. The podcast downloads have been through the roof and there’s more people coming to the site for their daily dose of all things Spider-Man every day. All of this is fantastic news! The downside of that, however, is costs are starting to mount.

Folks I know the economy sucks right now and that times are bad for way too many of us. Costs are rising across the board from gasoline to bacon. Some of us are out of work. Trust me, I know what that’s like. But Brad would happily take whatever you can give back to Crawlspace. A buck or two to help a great guy keep a fantastic site going… well that’s money well spent. If you’ve pitched in – thank you, thank you, thank you. If you haven’t, please consider it. I just kicked in myself.

I am very fortunate to say I know Brad Douglas, and that I’ve spent time with him and his family. I also feel fortunate that I’ve gotten to meet Mike Bailey as well. Thanks to Brad I’ve become pals with Spider-Fans all over the world. That, Spider-Friends, is invaluable.

Brad – Thanks very much for keeping the site going for Spider-Fans all across this Big Blue Marble.

Crawlspace Friends – Thanks for listening! We now return you to the arts.

–George Berryman!

  1. Yep I have only been a crawlspace-head for a couple of months but I visit the site daily. I made a donation for my appreciation for the site and the sense of community it brings. I agree with hornacek that the site is at least worth the cost of one comic a month.

  2. Hmmm…maybe when I pay for my monthly comics order,
I should toss a few bucks in the direction of the space too…

  3. It’s the last payday of the month which means times for me to pay for my monthly Crawl Space issue.

And I don’t say that to toot my own horn; it’s meant as a rallying cry to my fellow Crawl Space visitors to give what you can when you can. Yes, as Brad and George have said, things are tough all over, but I would guess that the majority of the site’s visitors who buy X coffees each month could instead buy X-1 coffees this month (yay, Algebra reference!) and throw that dollar the Crawl Space’s way.

  4. Indeed. I’ve been coming to the site for at least 5 years now, and I’ve made some good friends over the years. And even though I’ve long since stopped reading the comics, I still continue to visit the site. I appreciate all the hard work that I know must go into keeping this place running, between the articles, editorials, and podcasts. And all this just because these awesome folks want to share their love of the Amazing Spider-Man.
I donated a few days ago…I only wish I could give more.

  5. Well said, George! I’m one of the daily Crawlspacers you mentioned, and I sent a personal e-mail to Brad saying how much I appreciate the site and the work you all put into it. (I hope it was well received!) I wish you and everyone there the best of luck raising funds to keep the Crawlspace up and running for many years to come.
