  1. @9 – I rationalize that by assuming a few months have passed between the issues since the last Christmas issue to pad it out so that we can accept that a year has gone by since the last Christmas issue. And some of those issues are untold tales of Christmases past, so even though it’s been 12 issues since the last Christmas issue, it’s still only a couple of months later.

I’m sure you could take 3 consecutive Christmas issues for most comics and figure out a way to explain that they all took place on the same day and year. A lot of times Christmas issues are self-contained stories, not part of an arc.

It takes some forcing, but you can make it work.

  2. @3 and 7

If in years only a few months pass in comic book time, how do you explain titles with annual holiday related themes? For years I read Superman comics and it seemed each year there was a holiday related issue.

  3. It just occurred to me that there wouldn’t be a comic called “Amazing Spider-Man”
if his foes really were Superior. Just saying.

  4. I’ve gotten used to thinking that 50 issues = 1 year based on Ben Reilly returning to ASM after being on the road for 5 years. Of course that’s not official – you could have 12 issues of a comic that takes place over 2-3 days, and then 3 issues that take place over a month.

It’ll just seem weird if in a couple of years Miguel is still saying “I arrived here in the year 2014” and acting as if he’s only been here for a few months. Like Iron Man’s original origin taking place in the Vietnam war.

  5. @5 – I’d like to think that they will stop naming the time period in 2099, but the solicit text isn’t making me very optimistic about it.
It’s really confusing that they’ve stated what year Superior was set in, because it makes the timescale of the previous ASM stories weird. Due to the slow moving nature of comic time, Superior being set specifically in 2014 would mean that the BND – Dying Wish arcs must have taken place during 2013/14. Erugh comic time is just strange.

  6. @4 – Yeah, I’ve noticed in the Superior reviews that they specifically stated “2014” but I hope they drop that in the new book and just say that he’s in “the past”.

  7. @3 – In his appearances in Superior it’s been stated that it’s the year 2014. So it’s both 2099 and Superior that will be dated in a few years.

Annoyed that they released the cover for MM: USM, I was hoping to actually be surprised by the “shocking return” that’s supposed to be in the first issue.

  8. For Spider-Man 2099, I hope them saying “2014” in the description is just part of the description and they don’t mention the present year in the actual book. In a few years 2014 will be in the past but only a couple of months in comic-time will have passed and will quickly date the book if he says he arrived here in 2014. When Miguel is talking about *when* he got here just have him say something vague like this gem: “Admiral, based on the pollution content in the atmosphere, I would say we have landed in the latter half of the 20th century.”

“NEW WARRIORS #7. And who is hunting NOVA?” Not readers giving the book good reviews. Oh, I made myself feel bad.

“NEW WARRIORS VOL. 1: THE KIDS ARE ALL FIGHT TPB Collecting NEW WARRIORS (2014) #1-6” That’s optimistic.
