“Too fat for the suit…”
While participating in a Reddit AMA (‘Ask Me Anything’) session to support the Cancer for College charity, Will Ferrell had the following to say about Spider-Man when asked a question by a Reddit user:
Q: Is there any movie role, outside of comedy, that you wish you could have landed?
A: Yes. It was down to me or Tobey Maguire for “Spider-Man” and they harshly told me I was too fat for the suit. That having been said, every time I watch “Spider-Man” I still think I was the better actor for the role.
Ferrell was joking but it does make you wonder what might have been…

I never noticed Paul Rudd had a 2×2 Rubix Cube on his desk during that scene. And it’s still unsolved.
I’d pay to see Spidey in a glass case of emotion.
He definitely would have had a wider range of emotions.
