“Oh, and I’ve cancelled Valentine’s Day, too!”
According to comicbookmovie.com, Amazing Spider-Man producer & former Marvel man Avi Arad has chimed in regarding any possibility of Spider-Man joining the Avengers on the big screen. Arad told Total Film:
“I for one don’t see the value for us in it. I think we’re doing such a good job with the Spider-Man Universe. Spider-Man is arguably the number one character in the world. He shouldn’t make a cameo.”
Arad also stated that he’s obviously talking for himself and not for Sony. Amazing Spider-Man’s other producer, Matt Tolmach, also commented about the two properties getting together:
“The practical side of it is, look, how many movies have we just talked about? It’s all we can do to build that universe. We’re not going beyond that.”

I actually agree with him. I’ve never liked Spider-Man on the Avengers. He doesn’t really have any meaningful role to play on the team, and so he ends up getting written as the comic relief, which I think is kind of demeaning and misses the point of writing about Spider-Man in the first place. Tony already has the flippant humor thing covered in the movie universe anyway, so he’d be even more pointless there.
I would certainly be very interested to see what Marvel Studios would do if they could get the rights to Spidey back, but I was very happy with ASM and looking forward to the sequel quite a bit, so I have no complaints about any of this as it stands.
Last I heard it was Superman who was the no.1 superhero in the world. I didn’t believe it when they said it in this documentary I watched a few years ago,as they went by merchandising,recognizability and so on. Superman and Mickey Mouse. I didn’t believe it,to be honest,thinking Spider-Man would be the one. And what about Star Wars? Simpsons? lol!

See…I don’t really want Spidey in the Avengers movies proper; but just if they all took place in the same universe it would be more than enough. If Cap was shown reading an issue of the Bugle, or if Oscorp and Stark Tower appeared together in the skyline as they planned originally; that’d be more than enough.
The Spider-Man cinematic universe went to shit with the reboot… the previews for TASM2 look decent… here’s hoping they can salvage something from the train wreck that was TASM.

In New Avengers, he was there to boost sales and crack jokes. Just sayin’…
… and sadly, at the time he was written more in character when he was in that book.
I agree with Avi on this one. I hate Spider-Man as an Avenger (or a member of the FF or any other team). Spider-Man is Marvel’s consummate loner, and that’s the way I think he should stay. (That’s why I never liked him married either). I like when he occasionally (and temporarily) teams up with other heroes, but it’s totally out of character to have him commit to joining a permanent team.
I always thought Spidey was a terrible fit in the Avengers. I also thought Batman didn’t belong in the JLA. Both work as either lone wolfs or with one sidekick/partner. I mean, these are how the characters were originally intended….. so I’m not sure how keeping him true to his nature is like “cancelling Valentine’s day.”
If he killed Valentine’s day, he’d be doing everyone not selling cards, roses, candy or perfumes a favor

*SNORTS* That’s why they had to reboot it all. That ludicrous statement from the fool who forced Sam Raimi into inserting “Venom” into Spider-Man 3… after production had already begun, thereby forcing Raimi and the screenwriters to scramble and turn out what was arguably a cinematic clusterf@ck.
