well, Slott leaves ASM where he picked it up, in shambles!
What if he finally breaks because of this and actually kills Oc?
I figured it out: Peter will NOT return to his body. For whatever Slotty reason, he will not be able to do this. But, he’ll need to evacuate Otto’s dying body. And, he will. Peter/Ock will end up in the villain prison with maximum security and suicide watch to ensure Otto does not harm the body. Peter’s mind will occupy a machine or computer of sorts untill he can figure out how to get back into his body. In the meantime, via Horizon, Peter will mentor the new Spider-Man, thus, a Superior Spider-Man will be someone guided by Peter with enhanced gadgets (the claws, talons, eyes lenses, etc.)! Will this work? Hell yea! For a while, anyway. Any thoughts out there?
I have been wondering sometimes, that maybe Spider-Man is “broken”? All tis crap, all of the Sins Past, Unmasking, the Other stuff has made my patience thin, and maybe this whole Superior stunt just shows that they can’t make good ideas for Spider-Man anymore? Boo in that case. Boo.
In the “classified” panel – Uncle Ben tells Peter to be a “Superior” Spider-Man!
@25 Not sure calling people who like the current Spidey titles “pathetic” is the winning strategy. Slott’s work has received good reviews on various websites, including this one, there are a lot of people on message boards who are genuinely loving it, sales are decent. If you don’t like it, fair enough, but acting as if it’s objective irredeemable garbage is a bit much.
@ 25 – I’m not a sheep, I’m a human being dammit!
@ 27 You know, I am a Bronze Age child. My pride and joy … my love for comics rests at the alter of Silver and Bronze age runs. I’m disappointed with One More Day, One Moment In Time, and Brand New Day. But, this latest twist is interesting; it is clever; it is different. Why all the hate? It seems that this arc has the potential to be tops! I think it will prove to be worthy of the Spider-Man canon. For one – wait and see how this unfolds. After taking a look at the preview for 700 and coupling that with the claws and concepts of Superior … it seems that Peter will not be out of it. I don’t think Octavius remains as Spider-Man beyond 700 – it seems that Peter will return as the Superior Spider-Man, but in who’s body? Think about it – why does Octavius need claws? He doesn’t! Peter, in the new body, needs them because his Spider powers are not available in this new body. Sure, this is crazy stuff. But, let’s remember – this is a comic book! I’m excited. And, the haters, such as # 25, # 27, and others, need to chill. Make Mine Marvel! Yesterday! Today! And, Forever!
@ #25 You’ll be happy to know I’ve not gotten a marvel book (excepting reprints – good stuff) for some 6 or 7 years now.
@ 25 Dude, needlessly harsh. Take a chill pill. Anyway, this seems like a great concept. After reading 698, I though Otto would stay as Spider-Man, but it seems Pete, or rather, his mind, will come back … the question is – into who’s body. The claws and gadgets of Superior make sense, in his new body, Peter does not have his old spider powers. This is a great concept. Truly a great creative breakthrough. And, again: @ 25 – are you seriously this angry? Sad, indded, if you are.
Not supporting this book in the slightltest, I agree with whoever said Perter and MJ should be parents at this point instead of playing Jerry Springer-esque games of “will they/wont they” and being played around wityh by uncreative writers who refuse to take chances. I think fans should be strong enough to walk away from this frequently dissapointing and creativly bankrupt franchise instead of constantly rewarding stupidity, but that will never happoen, some people are just born to be sheep, and that’s why we will never get what we want, some simply don’t have the balls to say “maybe Spider-Man is a bit crap these days” and will keep buying the book. It’s pathetic.
@10,
It would be….if his name was Tim Hammond (hint it’s not)
I would imagine that Uncle Ben should have a few disapproving words for Peter after his deal with pure evil and once again keeping Aunt May alive so she couldn’t join Uncle Ben and the rest of the family in heaven. lol
That preview brought tears to my eyes, come on Peter!
They’re obviously setting it up for someone else to take over as Spider-Man. Uncle Ben’s words very much imply this…I think…
Forgot to ask: is this the regular cover for issue #700 then?
Hey, looks like Marvel has no hard feelings and is still sending you teasers for Spider-Man. I’m glad. I was upset yesterday and accused Donovan of doing something out of spite that would hurt this site. I apologize for that.
Crawl Space is still the best web site to get fast, up-to-the-minute news so I’m glad that things are okay. As for the issue, this looks like it will be BIG. Now I’m thinking Superior Spider-Man won’t be Ock. Miguel O’Hara…. hmm.
Depending on where the story goes this may be a classic in the making, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
~Lament~
Now that’s more like it. Maybe they really will end “Amazing” .
…I always thought that when you saw Uncle Ben, you knew for a fact you ain’t comin back…
Wait a minute, Humberto Ramos is doing the art? And it DOESN’T suck, and may even be called, dare it say it, not simply decent, but downright good? IMPOSSISBRU!
Looks like Slott AND Ramos really are pulling out all the stops with this story. Here’s hoping that it’s worth it, even if I’m not convinced the whole “Superior Spider-Man” thing will stay, but that would imply anyone is.
Fully Convinced Slott’s going to do a firestorm with Peter and ……….
Now, that would be a great issue.
Issue #700, 50th Anniversary of ASM should have been celebrated with Peter and MJ welcoming baby May into the world.
@10–Maybe Peter, via the gold octobot, transplants his mind into Norman Osborn’s body? After all, we never did see how ol’ Stormin’ Norman woke up out of his coma in ASM #697, did we?
Holy shit. Tim Hammond. That’s a subtle little callback. It looks like Pete’s going to come back to kick Doc Ock’s ass. I wonder if/how Norman’s escape last issue is going to factor into this?
Wydoes Peter want to die? hasn’t he fought his way back rom death in order to live twice now? Also this seems to confirm my theory that whoeve the Superior Spider-Man s it is probably not going to be Doc Ock in Peter’s body. Whilst this does look intriguing if this really (andit won’t let’s face it) be he end of peter prker shouldn’t e b fighting Noran instead of Doc Ock?
@#6
I think it’s some glitch with the posting. Happens to me a lot too.
So basically they’re just not going to call the book “Amazing” anymore. And they’re making a big deal of it.
My comments are getting moderated for no reason again? Why does this happen?
I was just saying how much I LOVED Richard Elson’s artwork in 698 and that he deserves a permanent Amazing Spider-Man artist gig after this Superior thing is over. LOVED his Spidey, Peter and ESPECIALLY MJ! Best artwork in the book for some time. Really classic looking stuff with a modern flavour!
So not only is this essentially the happy version of Amazing Spider-Man #655, but it also looks like this is what takes place immediately after the ending to Amazing Spider-Man #698.
Holy shit. This looks epic.
This might up being similar to happy birthday by JMS. You know that’s not a bad story at all. Quite the opposite, Isn’t this what Peter Parker’s role as Spiderman is about? Winning even at death’s door and conquering impossible odds. Slott has chances to make this a classic, should he play his cards right.
Not to mention his changing outfit to represent all of the different decades of Peter Parker.
Am I the only person who thinks that this might be the coolest story in Spider-man in years? I can’t wait to see how this plays out. Peter fighting his way back from literal death to reclaim his role as Spider-man! This is what Spider-man is about!
