Looking at it from all angles: 12 inch Scarlet Spider Review

I suppose a subtitle for this review would be “12 inch Scarlet Spider: Fact or Fiction,” since at no point in time could I actually find a 12 in Scarlet Spider.  Caution:  Disappointment awaits!

This first image on the left is the mythical “12 inch Scarlet Spider.”  However, if you look closely it is actually 10 inches.  Apparently someone was overcompensating by 2 inches, but where did those 2 inches go?

On the right, we have a 6 inch Scarlet Spider (on a 1/12 scale).  We have now lost 50% of the Scarlet Spider.

Do not let this image on the left fool you, this Scarlet Spider is only about 2 inches tall.  Okay, so right now, if I were to go to a restaurant and spend $12, this is like a 16.67% tip.

And yet, we keep getting smaller.  You may recognize this figure from the Marvel Heroclix collection.  If we just measure the Scarlet Spider himself, it’s about 1 inch.  That is just not satisfying!

So, up to now, I just could not believe that this 12 inch Scarlet Spider existed!  Over the years it just kept shrinking, shrinking, whittling down to this 1 inch figure and causing extreme disappointment.  But wait!  Is there hope?  I found this Bowen statue of the Scarlet Spider that is purportedly 14 inches tall!  Could it be?  And yet, in the past reviews we have based the size measurement on the actual Scarlet Spider, whereas this statue is obviously using some architecture as a size enhancer.  Once again, so close…

So what have we learned from this review? 

Well, sadly, the Scarlet Spider has been disappointing people since 1975.  While the 10 inch Scarlet Spider is the closest we can come to being satisfied, he still comes up short.  If you like vintage and are okay with not having the entire 12 inches, then have a go.  But take it from me, that 14 inch Itsy Bitsy Spider-man is great, and sure to please!
