Revisiting 2009 Sal Buscema Tribute Podcast

By far my favorite podcast I’ve ever done was the Sal Buscema tribute show. We celebrated his 40 years with Marvel by bringing his friends on to celebrate his dedication. And when we say friends, I’m talking Stan Lee, Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz, Roy Thomas and Danny Fingeroth.
They all surprised him on the phone line and it was a wonderful time for a great man.

Since I recorded this Sal has started taking commissions on this page.

I recorded this back in 2009 so if you haven’t listened to them before, or if you’d like to re-listen here’s parts  1-3.

  1. lol. These guys are straight up characters. Incredibly entertaining listen.

  2. This was one of my favourite podcasts, it was so awesome. Well done Brad.

  3. Hey does anyone notice in the background of where Sal is inking a page that there is a Statue of DC’s Caped crusader?

  4. @Gerard
What book was he working on?

Yeah… that’s right, the Romitas had several tributes, Jack Kirby had dozens, Sal’s brother John had a few, etc. Sal deserves a Marvel Visionaries HC, at the very least!

  5. My all-time favorite artist. I will forever be in debt to BD to give me the opportunity to speak with Sal during the podcast. It was the closest thing to meeting him and the fact that he had heard of my own little website tribute to him was icing on the cake. Thanks Brad!

  6. Sadly, this was the only real tribute he got for his 40 years at Marvel. The only thing Marvel themselves did was run a page in their books one month with a brief interview and have Buscema draw some variant covers. (That was the month that the book he was working on got cancelled, by the way.) Meanwhile, Bendis got a hardcover celebrating his measly 10 years at Marvel. Sad.

  7. Sal is such an unbelievably talented artist! I wish he would do more covers or even interiors for ASM.

This has never left my iPod since I downloaded it last year.

Random Memory: I played and replayed the Stan Lee segment again and again because it was so bizarre hearing Stan the Man SWEAR!

  8. Absolutely one of the best you’ve ever done, Brad. More than any of the others, this one just keeps finding its way onto my iPod!

  9. I’ve listened to this at least half a dozen times since you posted it back in ’09.
