No J. Jonah Jameson in Spidey Reboot?

According to IGN, J. Jonah Jameson will not be in the Spider-Man reboot. The site claims to have heard this from a “very reliable” source. Here’s the link:

EDIT: Fixed the link.

EDIT 2: Judging by these set photos, the Daily Bugle exists in this universe. Maybe Dexter Bennett is going to be the boss? Doubt it. http://www.dailyblam.com/sites/all/files/news/images/spidey_la_3.jpg

What do you think? Is a reboot focusing on a younger Peter Parker missing something critical if it doesn’t include teenage Peter’s cigar-chomping, barber-trusting employer?

  1. I dunno, even though it “claims” to be a reliable source I’ll believe this scuttlebutt when I have solid proof that JJJ isn’t in the film.
And if he isn’t, like a couple of posters have already stated, they might introduce him in the second film (like the Ultimate Spider-Man comic)

  2. I was skeptical when this movie was annouced, the recent pictures changed my mind and made me think this could be a great movie, and it still COULD be, but no JJJ? But there’s scenes at the Bugle…wasn’t there a Betty Brant rumour a few months back.

Why not get JK Simmons to come back, like M in the bond films, he could be the constant. Obviously no one could replace him, but no Jonah…are they mad?

  3. Unless there’s a good sequel or at least a hint of JJJ, I don’t think it could be a good movie without some notice from the Daily Bugle owner. 🙁

I mean that’s a part of Spidey’s human life and what made the previous Spidey movies, in my opinion, good and fun at some times.

  4. Durkinator27 is right, and just to add he isn’t as previlent in the ultimate series as he is in the 616 series. JJJ doesn’t have to be apart of every spidey story. Besides that just means we’ll have something to look forward to in the next film.

  5. Good lord. How the hell can they have a movie without JJ? I’m surprised they didn’t go ahead and change the color scheme of the costume. Marvel needs the liscense back badly.

  6. @Nathaniel: LOL I didn’t know that was a thing a did.

This is fail. I had been tolerant so far, but if Jameson isn’t in any major Spider-Man media, it’s doomed to suck.

  7. That’s silly. He’s pretty easy to fit in the movie, and he adds so much to it. If anything I’d think it’d only make sense to add way more JJJ to the film.

  8. That sucks, but maybe they’re saving the Bugle photographer job and J.J.J. for the next film.

  9. Well, JJJ wasn’t introduced in the Ultimate Universe until the second arc, so I imagine a plot point of the second movie will have Peter joining the Bugle. The first film will probably be purely high school drama.

  10. Couldn’t find anyone cheap that could make people forget JK Simmons, could you?

And I dunno… a Spider-Man movie without JJJ? That’s almost as bad as not having Uncle Ben…

Hell, in fact why bother putting the Daily Bugle in it at all?

  11. I think he’ll be seriously missed in this movie, especially if they still plan on having Pete work at the bugle. Maybe they’ll just leave that whole angle out of the movie, which I think would be sad. Josh is right though, J.K. Simmons was perfect casting and would be pretty hard to follow.

  12. That’s too bad. JJJ is so great. Though they’d never get someone better to play him…
