Here are more updates on San Diego Comic Con 2023! Around the expo floor I was able to see some other Spider-Man cosplayers on Friday and Saturday. You can also see me cosplaying as the Human Spider with the Marvel’s Spider-man 2 display.
I was able to meet and talk with many comic book creators throughout the con this past weekend.
Zeb Wells signed some of my Amazing Spider-man comic books that he wrote. He was also kind enough to answer a question I had for him in the video below.
Ryan Ottley signed some of my Amazing Spider-Man comic books that he did the art for. Humberto Ramos signed a beautiful Spider-Verse print for me. John Romita Jr. signed a few of my Spider-Man comic books, and showed some love for the Crawlspace. John Romita Jr. also talked about how coming back to Spider-man was like coming home.
J. Michael Straczynski had a spotlight panel and he talked about the writer’s strike and his thoughts on that. He also discussed what brought him back to Marvel writing Captain America. During the Q&A, a fan asked him about character history and how a creator handles the characters’ past. He mentioned, as a writer, it is important to look forward, but also respect the characters’ past. A big question that he asks himself as he writes is what are questions that no one else has asked. Our own Tyler from the Crawlspace asked J. Michael Straczynski about his story in Marvel 1000 and why he chose to write a story about regret. He answered that he likes to tell stories that no one else has before and answer questions that have been unanswered. He also likes to go down the “road less traveled”.
Below are some pictures of Spider-Man figures in the Hasbro display. Revealed at the con was Peter Parker and Smythe from Spider-Man: The Animated Series. You can see the other announced figures from the con HERE.
I also got some pictures of our favorite Spider-Friends at the Hasbro booth.
The Marvel Fanfare with C.B. Cebulski featured a panel of C. B Cebulski, Joe Quesada, and John Romita Jr. They started off the panel by remembering John Romita Sr. They talked about and showed some of his artwork, and John Romita Jr. talked about his father’s career and how he admired his father’s work. Joe Quesada discussed his journey from artist to Editor in Chief. John Romita Jr. talked about how he got started at Marvel being an art consultant and washing windows. The Marvel Comics’ Heroes, Hulks, and Super Soldiers panel featured Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe, writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson, writer David Pepose, writer J. Michael Straczynski, and Editor in Chief C. B. Cebulski. J. Michael Straczynski talked about what it is like being back at Marvel and how he will be focusing on the time before Steve Rodgers was Captain America in his Captain America run. We also saw some interior artwork and covers from the upcoming Captain America comics. Phillip Kennedy Johnson talked about his upcoming run on the Hulk and how it will be horror inspired and Marvel showed upcoming covers and artwork. Marvel: The Next Big Thing panel featured Nick Lowe, Gerry Duggan, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Sabir Pirzada, Zeb Wells, Sarah Brunstad and Jordan D. White. They talked about the Fall of X coming up later this week. There is a wedding coming up with Tony Stark and Emma Frost. They discussed X-Men #29, Uncanny Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Timeless with Moon Knight and Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant, and Spider-Man. Specifically to Spider-Man the panel discussed Spider-Boy and his popularity, and the wedding coming up with Randy Robertson and Janice Lincoln. The biggest announcements regarding Spider-man was how Spider-Man will be going after Kraven the Hunter, Rek-Rap is back(Brad’s favorite), and finally the Spider-Man event of the year Gang War. This will be a ground level story where Spider-Man will be putting together a team against the upcoming villains. We see some of the new villains who we don’t know, but we do see the Beatle, the Crime Master, and Hammerhead. Some tie-ins will include Spider-woman, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Miles Morales comic books. In the video notice how no one answers or applauds at Nick Lowe’s question about who has read Dark Web.

I’d love to see JMS write Spider-Man again.
