Spider-Tracer: “Spider-Man” (2002) Series 3

Welcome back, Spidey fans, for our third and final look back at the Spider-Man figures ToyBiz produced for the first “Spider-Man” movie! This article will be a short one, as this third and final wave of figures featured two rereleases, and only three new figures. With that in mind, let’s take a look…

Let’s get the rereleases out of the way first! Realizing the need to keep the main hero on store shelves, cases of the third wave featured rereleases of the Super-Poseable Spider-Man and Battle-Ravaged Spider-Man. Both were cool figures, and certainly worth being placed back on store shelves. For a more in depth look at those figures, be sure to check out my first article on these movie Spider-Man figures. With those out of the way, let’s look at the final three figures…

Power Punch Spider-Man

This Spider-Man, while I never had it, looks to have been pretty cool.  Sure, he’s not super articulated, but he does have a sweet removable mask feature, and the Toby likeness isn’t bad! I almost feel like this figure got a left over accessory or something from a figure that got cancelled, because the zip-line that’s included could have easily made for another figure! Honestly, I don’t remember this figure on the shelves, and that might explain the hefty price tag he fetches on the secondary market if he’s left mint in the packaging.

Battle-Ravaged Green Goblin

I’m pretty sure this figure explains Battle-Ravaged Spider-Man’s rerelease in this wave. Get both figures, and you can reenact the final battle! This Green Goblin reused the first wave’s Super-Poseable Green Goblin body with a new head. This head’s eyes were dim, until you hold the head up to a light, which made the eyes glow bright yellow! The figure wasn’t as brightly colored as the previous two Green Goblin figures, which makes sense, considering he got rather dusty after smashing up the abandoned smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island during his final battle with Spidey. And if that wasn’t cool enough for you, he comes with the three-pronged weapon he attempts to stab Spider-Man with, as well as a base that catapults him and allows for window-smashing action! All in all, this was a very cool figure.

Wrestler Spider-Man

This figure was awesome! I can’t say enough great things about him. I remember finding this guy sometime after the movie first came out, but my interest in the figures hadn’t diminished in the least, and I had to have him! Basically, he came with interchangeable Spidey and Peter Parker heads, but the fun didn’t stop there! He also had his wrestler outfit from his fight with Bonesaw McGraw (If only we got a Bonesaw figure to go with him!)! Swap out the arms and lower legs, then pull on the rubber overlays, including the mask for the Peter Parker head, and voila! Instant wrestling Spider-Man! The rubber overlays could be a pain to swap on and off, but he was still quite cool. In fact, Hasbro, must have agreed, because they rereleased this figure years later when they got the license to make Marvel toys.

And there we have it, the end of the first Spider-Man movie figure waves. Did you pick up any of these late additions to the line? If so, let me know in the comments section below! And, if there’s a Spider-Man toy-line or wave I have yet to cover that you’d like to see me take a look back at, please, don’t hesitate to let me know!

  1. @Joshua Nelson

I know the feeling! I sure got a lot of use out of the Green Goblin figures in the first and second waves!

  2. These toys really bring back memories for me. I played with my Spider-Man and Green Goblin action figures so much that wore them out.
