RUMOR: Amazing Spider-Man to Become Bi-Weekly, and Written Solely by Dan Slott

According to Rich Johnston (via Bleedingcool.com), Dan Slott will become the sole writer of the soon-to-be-twice-monthly Amazing Spider-Man.  Here’s what Rich had to say:

The rumour on today’s books is that Steve Wacker is to manage a new scheduling revamp of Amazing Spider-Man, currently a three-times-monthly title with a rotating creative team

In a week where two issues of the series shipped as well as an Amazing Spider-Man spinoff series , there do seem to be some scheduling issues. Working with different teams, with different work practices can lead to certain overlap as well as readers encountering changes of tone every month or so. So it seems there is a solution of sorts.

The story goes that Amazing Spider-Man may be going through another change in schedule, the popular rumour is that the title will now be twice-monthly, and Dan Slott will be writing each issue. He is already a leading writer on the title, now it seems that it will be his, all his. Mwah hah hah hah hah…

Marvel did not choose to comment and Dan Slott did not return e-mails. Don’t blame him. Expect a San Diego announcement maybe?

  1. I don’t have a problem with this possible development. In my opinion, Mr. Slott is the best Spidey writer currently penning ASM. His Spider-man/Human Torch mini is the best spider-man story of the last decade and he is the only reason I am stomaching the crappy post-BND Amazing Spider-man comics.

  2. i like the podcasts with the gang a lot more than the interview ones anyway. although, i would think that it is probably pretty cool for MR. BD to do the interviews.

  3. Wow, it’s kinda rare that I have to ban someone from a personal attack on me. Anyway, I just banned spyder-guy/Poddington/sillyboy. It’s against the rules to use multiple handles, insult and generally be a dick.

And to address the burning of the bridge. I don’t think I burned any bridge with Wacker or Slott. Both left on their own accord. Wacker and I have always been cool. However Slott continues to bash this website at CBR and other places. I don’t bash him on this site and any personal attacks are dealt with a warning on the front page and board.

  4. This is great news!!!! Slott’s issues have been the best by far. I am interested to see how they handle the artist. I bet they could get away with just 2 artists on a rotating arc schedule. My votes are for Marcos Martin Mike Mckone. I think having one vision for the books will work so much better. Is it too early to get excited about reading Amazing again.

  5. @sillyboy: Stop being a jackass. And while you’re at it, stop using so many aliases, Poddington/Bertie Bassit/spider-guy/sillyboy. That’s not going to protect you …

  6. Not a bad idea, but would have prefered Joe Kelly to take over the writing reigns on this title.
Hopefully, they can get some better artists on this title…that’s what’s been lacking IMO. The two best, JRJR and McKone are probably too busy with their other titles to work on this title…too bad.

  7. Dan’s brilliant at Spidey, a dab hand at it with a great flavour for both the old and the new, he has succesfully, being a continuity nutjob, blended in both the 80s and 90s Spidey lore into the BND universe, making somewhat LESS convulted and more accepted. I see Slott’s task as completing the package and making ASM more of a well-woven tapestry, and probably only then will the marraige return to the comics.

  8. @sillyboy – Dan is that you??!!

Seriously, since the start of BND the book has lacked consistency. Hopefully, that’ll change if this rumor is true. I wonder if there’ll be a regular artist or if we’ll still have the rotating crew on that side of things.

  9. its a shame BD sort of burnt his bridges with Dan Slott! no more interviews for BD!! guess thats what happens when you cry like a little girl!

  10. I think this is a great move because it will make the book consistent. I’m assuming rotating artists will still be involved, which is fine as long as Bachalo goes bye-bye.

  11. I like the fact it will be a consistent voice of the book, I am not pleased with the choice. Don’t get me wrong, I think Dan is a solid writer and I loved his Human Torch\Spider-Man mini. My complaint with Dan is his stories tend to be a little too whimsical and lack substance. Regardless of the rumored choice, I think getting rid of the rotating teams is a good one and with 1 less book a month, may increase sales per issue.

  12. Gee thanks, Slott… holding up that book in the pic hurts… I actually LOVED you on She-Hulk…

  13. It’s kind of a good idea, but could Slott actually pull off 2 Spidey books a month without anyone to help with the weight?

I can see him getting burnt-out with the workload and story load. Although the story quality and consistency would increase with just one writer with one consistent vision. Maybe if they did it and had a few guest writers every once and a while to do fill-in issues, like after an arc is finished, to give Slott a break every so often.

  14. APRIL FOO… oh wait, it’s June. 😛 I actually love this news, now all we need is a consistent artist and we’re golden!

  15. My God i hope this is true, i can live with Slott maybe even come to like him but its about time the revolving door team got scrapped. I dunno about it being bi weekly though, id still prefer it go back to just monthly, but its certainly better than 3 especialy on the wallet and probably quality

  16. This could work but only if he sorts out his consistency/deadline problems. Other than that, he’s fine.

  17. I like the idea, if it will increase the quality. Ive noticed that the Batman Comics that come out monthly always have much better art and more developed stories than the recent spiderman books, and that just shouldnt be. Plus, not buying three comics every month will let me pick up another series, maybe Daredevil.
