Three Spider-Man at once. Will it actually happen?

We already know how Spider-Man has transcended media boundaries many times before. It jumped from comic books to cartoons and movies. Then we have more than 30 video games released to date.

Spider-Man has not only made the leap from paper to the big screen, but Marvel has created its own line of fashion merchandise, including Spidey T-shirts and even masks. There are also school supplies featuring Spider-Man, although for the superhero’s grown-up fans the franchise has its own online slot themed game, since with the rise in popularity of online slots and given that they offer free spins to encourage players to create an account, it was a no brainer that this would happen. Combined with the ability of playing from the devices you already have, along with many other popular slot games such as online roulette or online blackjack that you can play, it’s a media that is winning a huge fan base all along.

In recent weeks, the additions to the cast of the future Spider-Man 4 have been the subject of all kinds of speculation. And it is not for less: the arrival of a good part of the actors who participated in different moments of the franchise suggest that there will be a large-scale show, with multiverses included.

Spider-Man is once again at the center of movie fans’ interest, and it’s no joke this time. Apparently, the third film in the franchise will not only fulfil the fandom’s dream of integrating multiple timelines at once. It will also satisfy fans of the different movies, who were hoping to see all the incarnations of the hero reunited on the big screen.

The cast is back

The possibility was confirmed last week, when it was announced that Andrew Garfield, Kristen Dust, Emma Stone and Tobey Maguire would be part of the film. It is more than evident that the plot —of which no details are known— will play with the possibility of interdimensional and multiverse travel.

But, if that wasn’t enough, it looks like Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Daredevil in the upcoming film. In all probability, as Peter’s lawyer, in the midst of the situation in which he left him the cliffhanger with which he closes Spider-Man: Far From Home, the most recent film in the franchise. Also joining the cast would be Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, as well as Jamie Foxx as Electro.

At first glance, it seems like an attempt with considerable ambition to take the saga to a new level, being what would be the last Spider-Man movie for Marvel —for now— and the beginning, perhaps, of a new version of the story after the return of the character at the hands of Sony.

Will these characters outshine Tom Holland, the current Spider-Man?

However, a good number of fans wonder if such a number of characters will not overshadow the current Spider-Man. Tom Holland has become the closest incarnation to Stan Lee’s vision of the character. And also the favorite of a good part of the fans of the franchise. The big question points to the fact of whether a single plot will be able to show all the possible variables of the story without overshadowing its main character or subtracting weight from the plot.

There are a good number of reasons to think that it won’t. To begin with, it is clear that the excess of characters is a mixed attempt at two basic intentions of the studios that are fighting over the rights to the franchise. In both cases, it is of considerable importance that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man continues to have significant relevance. After all, for Marvel it will be the farewell to a key figure in part 4 (with a fair amount of fans on board). And, for Sony, welcome to a new universe.

The spider that slides on a very thin web

For years, Sony studio and publisher (and later production company and studio) Marvel have had an uneasy showdown over full rights to the Spider-Man franchise. Less than a year ago, there was a threat of rupture that almost ruined Marvel’s intentions to film a trilogy with the Holland incarnation of the character. Finally, both companies reached an agreement that promised a third film, which would end the association between the two studios in a more or less dignified way.

Until now, details about the production had gone unnoticed. Suddenly, a host of details has been revealed, including Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) being Peter Parker’s new mentor, as well as the return of actor Jamie Foxx as Electro.

But two weeks ago, closed-door casting decisions seemed to pick up speed, and suddenly the names of Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Tobey Maguire came out. This hints at a new dimension to the film that will undoubtedly include a look at the multiverses.

How does this benefit Marvel and Sony?

In the case of Marvel, with several of its projects postponed it is most likely that the studio has decided to make Spider-Man 4 one of its films of the year. That includes giving Tom Holland considerable prominence as the house’s titular star.

For Sony it is evident that the studio has its own plans around the character. And one of them is a movie that will include the Sinister Six storyline.

Conclusion

Whatever comes out of this mixture we are pretty sure that there will be as many happy fans as there will be outraged. That said, it looks like they are taking a different approach for this last instalment, and it will be an interesting watch non the less.
