@André L. Santana: I love Sienkiewicz as a penciller – his Demon Bear art in the New Mutants is great.
But him inking Sal’s pencils are not great. Take the issue where Spidey finds out he’s a clone and hits MJ. He looks unhinged in those panels. The inks are not good.
@Hornacek – I love that art partnership in the title. Sienkiewicz doesn’t bring the art down but changes it to something else entirely.
In this issue (ASM #290), it was weird to see how JRJr.’s art somehow diluted – especially going through an entire spectacular Daredevil run with Al Williamson.
If you really want to see how an inker can drastically change how a penciller usually looks, go no further than Bill Sienkiewicz inking Sal Buscema in PPSSM.
I remember opening the comic and being surprised by how not Jonh Romita Jr. the issue was – especially after his Daredevil and X-Men runs; it really annoyed me. Was he changing for the worse or just experimenting?
And then I saw it: Vince Colleta. Right there and then, I learned a huge deal about inking.
I mean, this issue was called “The Big Question”. We should have all known what was going to happen on the last page.
