MARCO SPEAKS SPIDEY: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: BLOOD HUNT (2024) #3 REVIEW

Before I start with the actual review, I just want to wish everybody a good time when you go out to watch Deadpool get into his usual, naughty shenanigans with Wolverine on the big screen. Way over here in the Philippines, we got to catch it last July 24, so I won’t be giving any spoilers in this page, for sure. But if you’re enjoying the bloody action that Blood Hunt has been delivering big-time in the pages of a comic book, you’ll definitely have fun watching the movie, for more reasons than one. Having said that, Spider-Man and Morbius are obviously still very much at the center of things during the messy, chaotic Blood Hunt party. And with their own ending to their personal tale this long, endless night, fans are treated to a satisfying conclusion, but left with enough to keep them wanting even more.

Morbius is the one man close enough to a cure for vampirism. The vampires of the world cannot allow that cure to be reached. Spider-Man has Misty Knight, Colleen Wing and the Lizard on his side. But it won’t be enough.

PROS:

  • While Spider-Man may be the main hero of this series, Morbius’ character is the one that shines this time around. It is actually quite painful to see Morbius being so noble, working so hard to cure people of the vampire pandemic. It is especially heartbreaking to see the sad fate that befalls Morbius at the end of the issue. While he is able to save everybody else recently turned into a vampire, he is still unable to cure himself from his tragic curse. It was also an eye-opener to see the more practical philosophy of Morbius, and his revelation that all he ever really wanted was more funding and resources to be able to do his research. This series gave us a very good look at the human side of Morbius, and even Spider-Man appreciates this.
  • The fight between Colleen and Misty Knight was entertaining, though it was creepy seeing Colleen as a vampire. She gave into it pretty quickly, and even called Misty a cow… something that did not fly at all. Don’t ever tell anybody that, in fact. But it was good to see the supporting cast get a lot of punches in, and Spider-Man’s squad is proving to the rest of the world that they can stand along with the best. I would have liked to see Colleen maximize her vampire abilities more, but the cure just came so hard, so fast.
  • Lizard was a real champion in this issue, doing what Lizard does: going all-out beast-mode and battering anybody and anything that got in his way. The art was wonderful to witness, and the Lizard scenes were dynamic, lively, and brutal. I surely want to see more collaborations between Spider-Man and the Lizard in the future. I just find it so amusing how Spider-Man is working with such a motley crew nowadays, and he just keeps adding new friends to his contact list. It has been a fun year for Spider-Man so far, and I am hoping he gets more involved in all the vampire action in the other titles.

CONS:

  • The ending was a bit abrupt, and we don’t really get to see how the spin-off will immediately tie into the bigger picture. But ultimately, that just means we have to get caught up with the main event.

FINAL GRADE: A

I grew up consuming any kind of pop culture and mass media that I could grab that involved vampires. And I am a very happy camper with this latest adventure of Spider-Man and Morbius. And, just seeing them working together brings me back to the good ol’ days of the 90s, the prime of the animated series. It was also a joy seeing Misty, Colleen, Lizard, and all the other supporting personalities get their time to shine in this one. Once again, I just want to wish everybody a happy viewing this weekend, and I promise that Marvel fans are eating well this month, whether it be in going over the pages of a graphic novel, or sitting in the movie house watching two regenerating superheroes stab each other to… life.
