The first issue of this new series hooked me right away when I first read it. I am always open to more characters taking on the role of Spider-Man. And there really is no better fit for a new Spider-Man than somebody who moves like Nightcrawler. I haven’t really gotten to playing Spider-Man 2 on PS5 yet, but I do hope that they eventually add a Nightcrawler DLC character that we can play around with and mess around on the streets of New York City. Then, maybe, we can also get some romancing options with the Nightcrawler DLC character since he seems like such a suave dude.

THE DEVIL’S HORNS MEET THEIR MATCH! The Rhino’s on a rampage again – with a different Spidey suit in his sights! Desperate to apprehend the black-clad BAMFer, Orchis is pulling out all the stops. If the Rhino can’t put Kurt Wagner down, surely Silver Sable and her team of elite mercenaries can? But Kurt isn’t just a lawbreaker in the traditional sense…he’s a criminal flirt too. Can Nightcrawler sweet-talk his way outta this one, or is it lights out for our favorite devil?
PROS:
- I have to give Kurt a standing ovation and two thumbs up for his excellent display of flirtation. The fact that he was able to get Silver Sable to turn a total 180 degrees and shift from hunting him down to laying him on the floor and making out with the modern-day Casanova is simply amazing. Peter Parker would be very proud of Kurt. Even though our titular superhero is going through so many problems as a mutant, he still manages to find some time to score a big one with the ladies.
- The action scenes, although minimal, between Kurt and Rhino were spectacular. The creative team really knew how to reinvent a usually typical, standard type of fight between Rhino and a Spider-Man. Just when you think there is no other way to innovate, you have Nightcrawler teleporting Rhino into the sky all the way from the underground. Peter Parker would be very impressed with that smart move.
- The supporting cast in this comic book has been very strong for now. It was such a treat seeing Dagger drop by, although she was missing her partner. Mystique showing up as a crazy person is pretty sad, while seeing Vulture and Rhino hunting down Spider-Man feels like home. Silver Sable is always a welcome addition to any Spider-Man comic book, and she is proving herself as a worthy adversary. It was a total mic drop moment when Silver Sable and her team of mercenaries trapped Kurt in a plasma field that negates his powers. Fortunately, Kurt was able to take a leap of faith and teleport downwards to escape his pursuers.
- I always appreciate stories where the protagonists are running away constantly from some evil or some threat. Here, we have a Spider-Man that is being blamed for murder or assassination, and that is definitely not a good look for him. But I am looking forward to seeing how Kurt will clear his name and really find his sweet spot in this crowded world of Spider-Man characters.
CONS:
- As mentioned earlier, the fight scene between the Uncanny Spider-Man and Rhino was somehow too quick to really take in and savor. But I am looking forward to even more madness, mayhem, and chaos in the next few issues.
FINAL GRADE: B+
Overall, I can definitely say that I will be seeing this new Spider-Man series all the way to the very end. You mix the usual problems of an average, everyday Spider-Man with the stress and depression of a mutant and you get quite the entertaining tale… or tail, if you know what I mean. And can I just say… that tail was very effective in winning Silver Sable over. Now that we know what kind of kinks she has, maybe that can be a lesson for all you single gentlemen out there. And on that romantic note, I hope you all have a great, fun and spooky Halloween ahead… and to the kids going around the neighborhood, may you find all the sweet candies that your heart desires.
