If Batman and Superman are the crown jewels in DC Comics’ crown, their Marvel counterpart is none other than Spider-Man. The character first appeared in 1962 on the pages of Amazing Fantasy 15 created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
The superhero was so successful that the industry began to market the character up to today. For adults, the spider superhero also reached other forms of media. For example, video games about Spider-Man began to appear, becoming the first one that could be enjoyed with virtual reality software. For more classic players, the game also made its way into the world of casinos. The game has a slots version accessible in all countries. Today, sites such as Vegas Slots Online in Canada offer the best casino games such as Cleopatra, among 10,000 other options. Among the slots, you can play the classic and video versions. In addition, you can play from your mobile for free. However, if you want to try your luck, it is best to play for real money.
Films and series based on this superhero began to appear on the screen. Youngsters would put on Spider-Man masks and play. The success was so great that they began to sell costumes and fashionable clothing such as T-shirts. If Superman and Batman initiated the great superhero movie franchises on the big screen, the former with Richard Donner in 1978 and the latter in 1989 with Tim Burton, Marvel had a harder time bringing its intellectual properties to cinemas.
Who is Spider-Man?
Spider-Man is arguably the most important and famous Marvel Comics publishing house superhero. Born in 1962 by the hand of Stan Lee, Spider-man is the story of the shy student Peter Parker who is bitten by a spider contaminated by radioactive radium during a scientific experiment. The bite changes the genetic code and transforms the graceful boy into an individual with characteristics equal to those of a spider if he had the human dimensions, a true and proper Spider-Man. He can accomplish prodigious jumps; his hands and feet acquire the capacity to adhere to any surface, allowing him to climb on the walls of the skyscrapers of Manhattan. Moreover, he possesses a surprising balance and a spider sense which warns him of the imminent dangers.
What is known about Web-Weaver
Any good Marvel fan knows that Peter Parker hasn’t been the only Spider-Man in existence for a long time. Gwen Stacy, Peni Parker, Uncle Ben and even Miles Morales himself have their own spider-versions in the greater Multiverse of comics – appearing in some series and the movie Spider-Man: A New Universe. But now, the company has unveiled one more.
In the Edge of Spider-verse comic book saga featuring the history of various versions of Spider-Man, a new iteration of the character has been introduced for LGBT Pride.
The fifth volume will star Web-Weaver, a new version of Spider-Man. This superhero is a homosexual fashion designer who is a bit surly, so his name goes very much in line with his profession and his powers, as it could be translated as “the web-weaver”.
Writer Steve Foxe is the creator of this character, which was presented during LGTBI Pride month. His design was shown by Marvel illustrator Kris Anka, who revealed that he had been inspired by fashion designers Alexander McQueen and Thierry Mugler.
“His fearless female identity is a central part of who he is, but it’s not the story,” said Steve Foxe, remarking that his sexual orientation is not the central focus revolving around his story. “One thing I realized immediately when I conceived Web-Weaver is that he cannot, and should not, represent all gay men.”
This is the first time that Spider-Man, one of the most famous superheroes of all time, has been portrayed as openly gay, but it is not the first time that comics have depicted an LGTBI character.
Jon Kent (son of Superman), America Chavez, Deadpool and Loki are bisexual; Wiccan, one of Scarlet Witch’s sons, is gay and dates the Hulkling; Karolina Dean, from the Runaways series, is a lesbian; and Shela Sexton, known as Escapade, is transsexual.
As we have seen, more and more superheroes are beginning to show their sexual orientation without causing a social uproar. Comic book fans are beginning to wonder which will be the next superhero to have an LGTBI version.
