Coming from the first chapter a few days ago, I was extremely excited to see what Marvel had in store for the continuation… and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the next chapter would star one of my favorite symbiotes… none other than Scream herself! It is going to be quite interesting to see how this story plays out… by the way things are going right now, it appears that each chapter will focus and spotlight on a specific symbiote each round. This is a very smart and wise approach to doing this Carnage event, as it will be able to introduce new readers to the less popular symbiotes, while also updating the better versed readers on the latest events in the symbiotes’ lives. But the most important factor in this book is that Carnage definitely remains a terrorizing figure in all this chaos, mayhem and political turmoil.

SCREEEEEAM!
SCREAM: CURSE OF CARNAGE writer Clay McLeod Chapman returns to the character to lend his lethal sensibilities to EXTREME CARNAGE!
Andi Benton has always been a fighter, and that’s never been truer than since she bonded to the Scream symbiote a few months ago. But even after ABSOLUTE CARNAGE and KING IN BLACK, Andi has never had to fight like this — and, worse still, if she can’t save her symbiote from whatever unseen force is affecting it, she might have to do it alone…
CARNAGE NEVER DIES!
PROS:
- Andi is a very intriguing character right now because she is dealing with so many issues… she wants to be a superhero, as she finds herself facing off with a multiple-armed Spidey monster, while also having to fend off soldiers that are hunting non-human entities… plus, she has to deal with her tumultuous relationship with Scream and let us not forget the Carnage in her head. As always, Senator Krane is a looming presence in the minds of the symbiotes… and we all now know that Carnage is the puppet-master pulling all the strings from behind the scenes.
- The use of Andi’s hellfire power was in awesome display in this issue… as she reveals to Scream that all this time that she was bonded to the symbiote, she was actually holding back all her fire and rage from negatively affecting her symbiote partner. This, for me, just displayed the bond and relationship that Andi has with Scream… they have now become sisters who continue to work together and sacrifice for each other, even if it hurts. But the end of the issue hints at Andi having to deal with the loss of her new best friend.
- Carnage is a very scary monster… he discusses to his brethren Scream that Knull thought he was the king before, and now Brock thinks he is the one in charge, but to his point, all Carnage has had to do is sit back, relax, and wait on the sidelines for everything to play itself out. Now Carnage is moving all the chess pieces that he put in place in order to make the big takeover. He wants to prove that he is the true king of all the symbiotes.
CONS:
- One issue is not enough for such a cool, and powerful character like Andi/Scream. I do hope that she still gets additional screen time in the next coming issues, even though the spotlight is on the others already.
SCREAM FOR ME!
FINAL GRADE: A
The momentum has been on a high ever since the starting scene of the series. This is already turning out to be an excellent roller-coaster, and is actually, in more ways than one, even more high-impact that the ‘King in Black’ mega-event. The creative time has been solid so far, telling an action-packed story while also visually presenting all the insane violence through very attractive art that is so easy on the eyes. I find myself just reading these issues over and over again. I am definitely going all in with the new event, and I am going to see this through to the end. I’ll be screaming like a mad-man all the way home! Did you guys enjoy the issue?
Good point! Yes… well…. Ok true…. so I was actually expecting the opposite outcome…. their bond keeping them strong and together through it all! Yeah, have to agree as well…. my worry is the possibility of them being sidelined! huhuhu
Hey Marco! Great review! However I disagree with you one that one.
I tought the issue was poor at best. Scream was able to resist a Grendel powered carnage AND knull direct influence, but can’t resist a long distance call from Carnage? That doesn’t make sense.
Also this felt like a rethread of the scream mini, but inverted. Instead of the girls coming together and finding their own family scream just… Gives up. It felt force and I was very disappointed in that character regression and ultimately the fate of these characters as it seems they will be sidelined for a while. I was looking forward to a flash/andi team up akin to their venom/mania days.
