Brock’s Column: King in Black #4

NEW-YORK CITY, NY.

A point on the situation.

The past couple hours have seen yet another invasion of New-York, this time by a being name Knull. Witnesses on the scene have said that one of the first causality was the Vigilante known as Venom, taken out and thrown off a building in a matter of second by the King in Black. Afterward, Captain America, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men all failed to stop the God of the Abyss. Worst yet, they seem to have fallen under his spell. While the arrival of the Mighty Thor and a young man identified as Dylan Brock -the late Eddie Brock’s son- as well as a celestial controlled Iron Man seemed to have turn the tied somewhat, it appeared that Knull was back on top.

Breaking News

It seemed that the young Brock was Knull’s target all along, and that the dark God sees him as a son. Apparently he offered him a place at his side to rule the galaxy…

An offer that somehow seems familiar in a War against Stars… Thankfully, Dylan not only rejected Knull, but was also able to somehow infiltrate his Hive and freed the heroes from Knull control. Thanks to an  attack coordinated by Jean Grey, the bulk of Knull’s forces where forced back together by the combined might of Cyclops, Doctor Strange and The Storms sibling (pictured left), before being dealt a devastating blow by the Dark Atlantean army lead by Namor as well as thunder sent down by the X-woman Storm and Thor.

On top of that, The Silver Surfer was somehow able to break through the God of Darkness symbiotic cocoon surrounding the planet and

is bringing our enemy’s anti-thesis with him (pictured right). Our correspondent at Reed Richard lab’s informed us that this force is the Uni-power, also known as the source behind Captain Universe. It apparently choses to bound with Edward Brock as its new host. It seems we are heading toward a fight between a Venom/Captain Universe Hybrid and the God of Symbiotes (pictured below).

  1. @Aqu@ thanks! I tried to make it original!

Don’t forget Jean Grey isn’t just any mere human. She is a omega level mutant and former host of the Phoenix force – a god in its own right! One of light and rebirth to boot. And even then it wasn’t a walk in the park. She seems to be in pretty bad shape following her probing.

Beside I think you are right. Just like the uni power bonds to a host to become captain universe I think “knull” is a god of darkness bonded to a host. Which means we might not see the end of him just yet…

  2. Very nice way to write a review, I liked it, Mr. Ote!

As for the event… I’m still not sure how I feel about the Captain Universe reveal.
Of this I’m certain: Knull is a phony. No real ancient god with a hive mind should be mind-probed with ease like that by a mere human.

  3. King in black has been a blast so far. Tight storytelling, outstanding art (I mean it both looks epic and the level of details is phenomenal) and no decompression. Every panel is there for a reason. Also the tie in are absolutely unnecessary to enjoy the main series. I truly believe it’s one of the best event that marvel as released in a LONG time.

Honestly cyclops was badass… But so was every character depicted. Marvel girl, Thor and storm, strange… The panel composition made them all feel like larger than life power houses. Which they should be.

That twist on captain universe is very cool and make a lot of sense. I’m actually surprised we didn’t see it coming! It’s supposed to be the sum of all life. Once again Cates builds upon continuity rather than ignore it (cough Bendis cough)

  4. I’ve really been enjoying King in Black. I’m also a big Cyclops fan so any time he’s shown at his full potential makes me happy. Horde of symbiotes…time to take the visor off!

The return of Captain Universe was a cool surprise. All his time he was really an inverted symbiote. Well played.
