I always thought the same, Zach. It looks like Mary Jane’s attributing his exhaustion, disappearance, and injuries, to “Blondie,” though — so maybe she was a bit dense. Or she’s blinded by her anger.
Nothing that can’t be explained away by his job as a photographer. Running around taking pictures of Spider-Man explains him appearing half-dead and missing for days at a time. Cuts and scrapes are explained by photographing superhero/supervillain battles.
Peter’s friends were very dense. How many years did they notice him walking around half-dead from exhaustion? Disappearing for days at a time? Bruises and little cuts? Did they ever speculate that maybe he had a second job, maybe even a government job?
