I love this story. It shows just how depraved Norman is, but also shows a slightly more sympathetic side to him. The moment Peter refuses to give into the darkness is one of the best Spider-man moments.
Still one of my favourite Norman stories, I love how it deepens Norman as a character, and Peter’s torture under him is pretty horrific in a way the Spidey titles usually aren’t. It makes for a great companion-piece to Jenkins’ A Death in the Family, which continues on a lot of the same themes, while giving Peter the full, satisfying victory he was denied here. JR is definitely right when he says that Jenkins gets Norman more than most writers, I’d say he’s probably the best Norman writer in general, he really makes him feel like one of the most fleshed out comic book supervillains.
