Today has been designated as Spider-Man Day by the internet because Amazing Fantasy #15 came out on August 1962. Technically, the day it’s considered to have come out is August 10, which is why the MCU Peter Parker celebrates his birthday on August 10.
With all the comics creators and TV/ movie talent home during the pandemic, plenty have chosen to comment about the wallcrawler.
He also posted an image of the different versions of Spider-Man.
Josh Keaton posted a short video.
Sean McKeever posted a childhood photo, while reflecting on his Spider-Man work.
Steve Lieber showed off every appearance of Spider-Man in Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and thanked editors for letting him get away with “that condom in the panel where Beetle is dumping out his boot.”
Todd Nauck celebrated with a sketch cover.
Gabriel Hardman posted some Spider-Man pin-ups, including one of notable Ditko creations.
Chris Eliopolous showcased the Amazing Bag-Man.
Dan Slott showed off some of the scenes he was proud of.
Christopher Yost wrote about what makes Spider-Man so great: Spider-Man has always been my favorite character in all of fiction. Humor masking fear, an overwhelming sense of responsibility… the most human and relatable super-hero out there. And guess what? He wears a mask not to protect himself, but the ones he loves.
Mark Millar noted that one person might not be happy with this online holiday.
What do you guys think of the idea of Spider-Man Day? Does August 1st make sense? And is there any celebration you liked that I had left out?
@hornacek: Frank Miller only drew a few Spidey stories but he did a bunch of covers back in the day.
The Amazing Spider-Man #203, 218–219, Annual #14-15
Marvel Team-Up #95, 99-100, 102, 106, Annual #4
The Spectacular Spider-Man #46, 48, 50–52, 54–57, 60
Erik Larsen’s list is kind of wacky. Frank Miller is #3? Besides the DD issues in PPSSM where Spidey was blind, I’m hard pressed to remember any Miller-Spidey issues – there are likely fill-in issues here and there, but still. Also, Humberto Ramos and Chris Bachalo ahead of John Romita Sr? Ok, now he’s just trolling us.
I love how Peter Parker has no year of birth listed on his passport. I realize they don’t want to date the film, but you’d think they’d make it a little more realistic.
