I guess we can put Spidey’s pessimism on the situation down to shock at May threatening to kill him, but it’s still pretty laughable considering how many times he’s effortlessly dodged bullets at equal range, it should really be a reflex at this point. Aunt May’s sheer idiocy around Doc Ock is almost impossible to reconcile with the much sharper character she’s since been turned into. I remember Paul Jenkins referencing this scene after Aunt May found out about Peter being Spider-Man in the JMS era, and it was just surreal to think that even occurred in the same universe.
