One might say Doc Ock is “something of a scientist” himself.

They really played up the connection between Doc Ock and Aunt May for a while, probably to give Peter more of a personal reason to hate him. In the days before Venom and Norman regularly plagued Peter’s personal life, Doc Ock having a weird romance with May was probably the biggest invasion a villain had managed of it. Of course, it wasn’t quite as devastating as hijacking his body..
@hornacek: He technically wasn’t her boarder the second time. He just showed up at her place looking like a bum, took a shower, and got his Doc Ock outfit back (it was a package he had previously sent to her and she kept it for him).
@Adam – So there were 2 separate incidents when Doc Ock was Aunt May’s boarder? Somehow I had merged them into one. But that makes sense, plus I didn’t notice that this panel was from #54, almost 100 issues before that Doc-Ock-as-homeless-nuclear-explosion-survivor story.
@hornacek: The Colonel Chicken feast happened during Len Wein’s run.
Based on previous Spider History episodes, I expected Doc Ock to be eating a bucket of “Colonel Chicken”. Maybe that was a different panel/issue?
I’m surprised Aunt May didn’t turn to Peter and reply in disgust to the name “Dr. Octopus.” (“You mean ‘Octavius,’ dear.”)
