I took MJ wearing sweats but saying “lingerie” as just MJ teasing Peter, not an error or CCA restriction. It’s just the kind of playful thing she would do to get Peter’s hopes up.
I remember reading this in the 90s when it originally came out. It’s a solid story taking place during the black costume era and it’s about some Russian guy who wants revenge on Peter’s parents for some reason even though they’re dead so he desecrates their graves iirc.
This scene with her sweats being described as “lingerie” was either (a) a miscommunication between the writer and artist, or (b) the Comic Code Authority thought the original panel was too sexy and made them redo it. Most likely (a), but (b) wouldn’t surprise me either.
