Time to go to the zoo, we’re gonna see Pooh-Bear!  I’m not lying, we actually do see a bear in this issue.  Morlun is on the chase to kill Peter Parker because this is the ONE Spider-Man that has defeated him.  Three times and his ego can’t have that kind of rep.  After being blown up, he doesn’t die but his clothes get shredded, so he steals a tshirt.  Speaking of a change of clothes Peter decides to go all commando with his Spider-Costume and arms himself with riffle and tranquilizers to take this vampire down.

Things are going actually well for Peter as he gets a few shots in but then Jonah shows up with New York’s finest and interfers with Peter’s plan.  Peter manages to save JJJ and the cops and instructs them on his plan.  Once again it’s Peter alone with Morlun and it’s actually what Peter wanted.  Our hero gets payback from “The Other” arc and stabs Morlun in the eye with a tranquilizer dart.  Talk about an “eye for an eye”.   A swift kick in the gut sends Peter into a grizzly bear’s den, and when Morlun follows, Peter escapes the situation.  Manages to trick Morlun into following him and cages the vampire followed by the SWAT team pumping him with more than a dozen tranquilizers.  Our hero heads on home only to have Spider-Gwen ask for his help to conclude the Spider-Geddon story.

This is another Spider-Geddon tie in folks, don’t expect too much from it, but that being said, lets focus in on some of the good things this issue did deliver.  Juan Frigeri artwork is very fluent and just works well for Spider-Man and his universe.  I would like him to see more of him working on future titles but, I’m gonna give major props to Sean Ryan. He does a really good job making Peter look like a bad ass!  Spider-Man outsmarts and kicks ass in his OWN BOOK while telling jokes along the issue!  That is the Spider-Man we want to see.

GRADE: A-

Welp!  This is it folks!  The end of that 10 year Parker Industry new status quo is flowing down the river.  Spect has come to a close and now will be replaced by Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man which follows the status quo of what Nick Spencer has been doing in Amazing and I for one, couldn’t be more excited!  Chi-Town Breakdown will continue the reviews for Friendly Neighborhood and I hope you are excited for it as much as I am.  Now…if I can just figure out this new WordPress update…

  1. Holy moly, Peter was a total badass in this issue! Injecting sedative right in Morlun’s EYE while verbally roasting him at the same time? Also KICKING MORLUN AND A BEAR AT SAME TIME?? So darn cool!! Nice to see Peter actually thanking Jonah for once.

This issue was hundred times more satisfying than the ending of Slott’s ASM Spider-verse arc ending.

    A+

Now that Spectacular Spider-Man is over, I want to find out what FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD SPIDER-MAN (2019) will bring to the table.
