I’m hoping we get Scorpion in the new movies sooner rather than later.
Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #20
Published: c. November, 1964?
Cover Date: January, 1965
“The Coming of the Scorpion!” Or: “Spidey Battles Scorpey!”
Writer: Stan Lee
Artist: Steve Ditko
Inker: Steve Ditko
Letterer: Sam Rosen
This was the first older back issue I ever bought. (That’s because I had a beaten up copy of #19.)
What I remember most was how tight the continuity was from issue to issue. Starting around issue #14, the Lee/Ditko run got extremely tight and very, very good. Those stories are still fun to read and this one is certainly a highlight!
GOSH I loved this issue. Was one of the first depictions of a truly intense fight for Spidey. Slamming each other through walls, brick chimneys, tossing and pulling each other off ledges, Spidey’s suit got trashed.
MAN.
It’s a shame that JJJ likely won’t be in the MCU, I’ve always thought the most interesting thing about Scorpion was how he served as a representation of Jonah’s failure.
It’s also a shame how Scorpion became such a joke, he was definitely a doofus from the beginning, but he was still strong enough to beat Spider-Man!
My default memory of The Scorpion is of him 20-feet tall, thanks to the 60s animated series.
