Spider-Man Crawlspace
PROUDLY PRESENTS
Greetings Crawlspacers! Welcome to the twelfth edition to Spider-Man Cosplay! The article on the front page that deals with interviews that I conduct featuring people who cosplay in Spider-Man themed costumes. If it’s Spidey-themed and love for the character I’ll find it and publish here right on the front page!!
We are taking you to the “Shocking” Future Folks, with this new edition of Spider-Man: Cosplay!
What drew you into Spider-Man and when was that? What does Spider-Man mean to you?
Spider-Man was one of my friends favorite heroes when we were in high school and then I started working at a comic book store and he told me to read Civil War. I loved the design of the Iron spidey and started diving more into the spidey storylines. To me Spider-Man represents innocence, and next to Cap, truth and justice.
Might be cliche but Todd McFarlene mostly because I love his work with Spawn and was into spawn before Spider-Man but also because the poses he draws gave me a lot to work with and think about, but I’m not flexible enough to mimic them lol. Although he’s not a complete favorite, when I first saw Rick Leonardi’s drawing of Spider-Man 2099, I fell in love with the design itself but I didn’t get around to reading about 2099 till recently.
Was there a favorite issue or story arc you like? Can you tell us why?
Civil war was my favorite arc since it had my favorite suit and seeing after his coming out as Spider-Man and with everything spiraling south, he still wanted to be a hero and still did what was right.
Is there any merchandise you hold dear to you that represents your love for the character besides your Cosplay?
YES! The Spider-Man 2099 Smack To The Future volume 3! It was given to me for my birthday!
Speaking of which, let’s get into that! Spider-Man 2099 is one of your spider themed cosplay. What was that like designing the costume and did the costume present any hurdles to you when making it. What drew you into cosplaying that character? Arachnid Studios was having a sale on Spider-Man dye art and the first and only two I looked for were Iron Spidey and 2099. I saw that a lot of 2099 cosplays and suits had the floppy arm pieces and decided that I would have to make that myself somehow. I couldn’t afford a face mask and decided that making a face mask, lenses, and spines out of worbla and foam would be faster and cheaper than making the legs for Iron that I ended up cosplaying 2099 first.
You suited up for the first time and ready to walk on out of the floor. What was that like and how did that feel? I was never really confident with cosplaying. I cosplayed various characters before and I enjoyed it… but to thoroughly be confident and dive in as Miguel was completely different. I debuted 2099 at San Francisco Comic Con and I had a blast!
Sometimes a costume you cosplay as defines you, because you represent it so much. Has anyone ever called you “Miquel” or “O’hara” while out of costume?
You don’t have to say Spider-Man, but which costume is your favorite to dress up as? Honestly Glaceon and Ahri challenged my confidence and even though I did them, my confidence wasn’t there. The Reaper set, I had a lot of fun with and I was confident but still shakey but I didn’t care because they were memey. So my favorite one would be Spider-Man 2099 because it gave me a lot more confidence and with it being more of a serious cosplay I took it to more cons, anime and comic themed.
Have you ever considered dressing up as another spidey themed character? YES! Iron Spidey, Iron Venom, and Venom will be the next ones I do but I would like to do them in my own style, which means an aggressive look, and I’d have to do a lot more prop work other than just get the suit.
Have you ever heard or visited the Crawlspace (this site)? I have not, so I’m glad you reached out! Before this I only knew a few spideys but Aleks, Acrylik_Spidey who is a friend of mine helped me answer questions about the spiderverse and the suits. So it’s nice meeting more people I can connect with!
Do you listen to the Spider-Man Crawlspace Podcast? I don’t normally listen to podcasts or youtube channels but for spideys I will!
Where can people find you online if they wanted to?
