Spider-Man Cosplay #3! Featuring Kaine: Scarlet Spider (Nico Lara)!

Spider-Man Crawlspace
PROUDLY PRESENTS

Greetings Crawlspacers!  Welcome to the third edition to Spider-Man Cosplay!  The article on the front page that deals with interviews that I conduct featuring people who cosplay in Spider-Man themed costumes.  If it’s Spidey-themed and love for the character I’ll find it and publish here right on the front page!!

This edition, we have Nico Lara.  He cosplays as the other Scarlet Spider, Kaine!  Beware his mark!  Let’s see on why this character means so much to him!

ME:  So let’s get started! What drew you into Spider-Man and when was that? What does Spider-Man mean to you?
NICO: Well what drew me in the very first was the original theme song from the 1970s tv show reruns when I was about 5 I immediately stopped what I was doing and watched the show. I was hooked ever since and I always loved his costume it’s really cool!  Spider-Man to me is a lot of things but mainly inspiration to always do the right thing and no matter how difficult things get you always keep going no matter the hardship or how hopeless things seem. Spider-Man inspires me to be the absolute best I can be as a person.

ME: Favorite Spidey writers and artists?
NICO:  Of course! J.Scott Campbell, Todd McFarlane, John Romita JR, Jack Kirby. As for writers Steve Ditko, Michelinie, Mark Bagley, Christopher Yost, and Ryan Stegman
ME:  Was there a favorite issue or story arc you like? Can you tell us why?
NICO:  My favorite Issue just because I love the cover is the amazing Spider-Man 300 and it doubles as one of my favorite story arcs which was Venom. In my opinion he is one of the coolest Spider-Man villains and how it’s an alien. My Dad used to read me that arc all the time and we would play pretend where he was Venom and I was Spider-Man very good times and memories for me with that arc in particular.

ME:  Is there any merchandise you hold dear to you that represents your love for the character besides your Cosplay?
NICO:  Unfortunately for Kaine no but I do have a comic book cover pillow case of the Torment arc that’s was drawn by McFarlane that’s over 20 years old.
ME:  Speaking of which, let’s get into that! Scarlet Spider (Kaine) is one of your spider themed cosplay. What was that like designing the costume and did the costume present any hurdles to you when making it. What drew you into cosplaying that character?
NICO:  I did not design the costume I ordered it online but one of the struggles I had with it was my mask did not come with it so I didn’t have the mask for a while and I had to train to slim down for the suit to fit perfectly.

ME:  What inspired you to cosplay Kaine?
NICO:  My inspiration to Cosplay Kaine honestly he’s just such a cool character and he’s not very well known or seen much at cons so I wanted to give him some attention and people really enjoy that suit too so it’s perfect.

ME:  You suited up for the first time and ready to walk on out of the floor. What was that like and how did that feel?
NICO:  Oh man the first time suiting up that was so Nerve Wracking since I knew no one at the con and I just wandered about until some Fellow spiders called me over and we all became instant friends it was so great.
ME:  Sometimes a costume you cosplay as defines you, because you represent it so much.  Has anyone ever called you “Clone” or “Kaine” while out of costume?
NICO:  Heck yeah I get called clone, Kaine, Scarlet all the time by friends and Family its different from my usual name which I like.
ME:  Any cool stories you wish to share while dressing up and walking around as Scarlet Spider?
NICO:  So it was the last day of NYCC and I met a friends cousin who seemed a little bummed out and I found out it was his first big con so I talked to him about his cosplay and I asked if he wanted to do some action shots he was super happy so we posed and I cracked jokes got some cool pictures for him to take home and I gave him some tips about Spider-Man cosplay and he lit up like a Christmas Tree and it made me so happy too to cheer him up and enjoy Cosplay even more.

ME:  Why Kaine and not the other Scarlet Spider (Ben Reily)?
NICO:  Other than him not getting a lot of attention but Red and Black are my two favorite colors. I really relate and understand what it’s like to have messed up in the past and go through pain and hardship and be angry about it all the time but at the same time to respect and admire someone to change and better yourself and Kaine, he had some doozies, and so have I,  but he always tries just as much as Peter and he wants to inspire like him as well and that’s what I strive to do with anyone close to me I and that’s where I admire Kaine more and love his character. Plus he helped save the Spiderverse.  So if that doesn’t earn him some serious love I don’t know what will.
ME:  This is a Spider-Man site, but I’m sure people would like to know. What other cosplay costumes have you done?
NICO:  I’ve Only done a few which I have done Arsenal from DC comics and I have also done Juane D Arc from RWBY.
ME:  You don’t have to say Kaine, but which costume is your favorite to dress up as?
NICO:  Gotta pick the good Old Black Symboite suit such a sleek and simple design but it’s an awesome suit.

ME:  Have you ever considered dressing up as another spidey themed character?
NICO:  Oh yeah I have so many ideas I have to write them down! I wanna rally do some villains too
ME:  Have you ever heard or visited the Crawlspace (this site)?
NICO:  Not until recently and I will definitely check it out more though!
ME:  Do you listen to the Spider-Man Crawlspace Podcast?
NICO:  I added it in my list and I’m very excited to listen too.
ME:  Where can people find you online if they wanted to?
NICO:  Facebook (Nico Lara) and Instagram (@nicolara91)
