Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows ongoing series is a miracle. Just ask Dan Slott. The title, launched with the man who killed Gwen Stacy, brought about the Clone Saga (OG), was the first man who wrote Spidey twice a month, and is a guy who made Carnage interesting in Gerry Conway and Ryan Stegman, who brought you fantastic pencils in Scarlet Spider and Superior Spider-Man, launched this title last year. While Conway left the title earlier this year, he handed the reigns off to Stegman in the writer’s chair, who has performed well in the title thus far. It’s has been a title that we have given high marks to in Spider-Satellites on the Podcast, and the reviews have been stellar on the front page.
But with Issue 13, there will be a new creative team on the title. More after the jump

IGN: How does The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows embrace the idea of Marvel Legacy?
Nick Roche: It’s all about Power And Responsibility: The Next Generation, with all the benefits and drawbacks that come with those burdens. I’d like to think it’ll be a book that helps parents figure out their kids, and vice versa.
IGN: Time jump! Can you explain the thought behind fast-forwarding 8 years to when Annie is a teenager?
Roche: I’m the owner/operator of two under-fives, so this book is serving as a warning from the future. The questions thrown up by the book are fascinating. Would Peter Parker have had the same humility and strength of character if he’d been born with powers like Annie has? At least when my two are in their teens, they won’t have potentially destructive super powers to amplify the mood swings. (Right…?)
IGN: Who can we expect to see as the villain in this new arc?
Roche: “Villain” singular? I’ve drawn at least six already…
And this is a Spidey-book; the Parkers aren’t know for the golden good fortune. An unexpected bill is more likely to thwart them than any Osborn. Even with a time jump, Pete and Fam aren’t lucky enough for THAT much to change.

So, while I hope it retains the charm of the first year, I also hope that Stegman at least stays on for Covers, given that’s what he did through the entire run on Scarlet Spider. Because, well, he’s my favorite new generation of Spidey artists.

@hornacek Yeah sure Stegman did a good job writing the book.
@Sano – That’s why I was cautiously optimistic about Stegman being the writer – he worked with Conway on his issues, so he has more of a feel about Conway’s vision for the series, and how those issues “felt”. I don’t know anything about the new creative team, and no idea about what to expect.
More worried about the change in the creative team than the direction the book is taking. There’s only one Conway. Still looking forward to it.
So the selling point of the book is no longer the idea of Peter and Mary Jane being married? They’re gonna turn it into Spider-Girl 2.0? And the writer people gave the book a chance for has moved on?
How’s it look to you now?
@Raymond – You’re right, but this time-jump/status quo change is a LOT closer to Spider-Girl then the original RYV was. With a teenage Annie who can leave the house on her own, it’s fairly likely that we’ll get some issues where Annie in solo action. This comic is well on its way to being more and more like Spider-Girl.
That’s not a bad thing, but it’s a thing.
It’s not going to be like a Spider-Girl comic.

Peter was disabled in Spider-Girl comic.
He didn’t share powers with Mary Jane.
In Renew Your Vows, Peter is an active Spider-Man and he shares powers with Mary Jane.
Torn. I want to see what this will be like. But I agree, we are on Spider-Girl territory now. This is almost ready to have her license Annie and apparently MJ’s business hasn’t stabilized and you wonder if Peter would be an editor by now.
I am hoping this turns out good
Marvel, if you want do a Spider-Girl book just hire Tom DeFalco and bring back Mayday.
You can do more dramatically with a teen Annie than with an elementary-school Annie. You also have fewer fan criticisms of the Parker parents endangering their underage child. You also start moving the title toward the fervent Spider-Girl fan-base. Annie isn’t MayDay, but she’ll start to occupy the same spot.
I’m really curious what people think about this. It seems odd to me to make this change.
