Stan Lee

Writer, editor, publisher, Marvel Comics; co-creator, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men

Stan “the Man” Lee’s influence over comic books is incalculable. His co-creations Spider-Man (with Steve Ditko), X-Men, and The Avengers (with Jack Kirby) have been monster movie hits, helping make Marvel Comics the leader of the comic book industry. Some of Stan’s other great co-creations, such as Thor and the Black Panther (both with Kirby) have movies on the way in the next few years.

In 2008, President Bush presented Stan a Medal of the Arts, lauding his amazing career. Stan is currently developing movie and TV projects with his company POW! Entertainment, while still proudly cherishing the title of Chairman Emeritus of Marvel.

J. Michael Straczynski

Writer, The Amazing Spider-Man, Superman Earth One; Creator, Babylon 5

As a comics writer for Image, Marvel and DC on such titles as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, Midnight Nation, Dream Police, and Superman Earth One, J. Michael Straczynski has sold nearly 13 million individual issues; as a TV writer he’s written over 300 produced episodes, creating Babylon 5 and co-creating Sense8 for Netflix; and in film he’s worked on Changeling, Thor, and World War Z among others. He has a Rising Stars movie in development with MGM, is writing a Midnight Nation pilot for Universal with Gale Ann Hurd attached, and is developing Ten Grand for A&E.

Keith Pollard

Artist, Fantastic Four, Thor, The Amazing Spider-Man

Keith Pollard is an American comic book artist. Originally from the Detroit area, Pollard is best known for his simultaneous work on the Marvel Comics titles Fantastic FourThor, and The Amazing Spider-Man in the late 1970s–early 1980s.

Pollard made his professional comics debut in 1974 with stints on such titles as Master of Kung FuDeadly Hands of Kung FuAstonishing Tales, and Black Goliath. He was the regular penciller of the Amazing Spider-Man from issue #186 (November 1978) through issue #205 (June 1980), and pencilled the backup feature in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #15 (1981). With writer Marv Wolfman, Pollard co-created the Black Cat in the Amazing Spider-Man #194 (July 1979).

Ron Wilson

Artist, The Thing, Super Boxers

Ron Wilson, Bronze Age Marvel comic book artist is known for his prolific work in the ‘70s and ‘80s on some of the most popular titles in comics. He has also drawn a host of other titles including the Hulk magazine, which coincided with the Lou Ferrigno TV series. Ron is the creator of Wolfpack, the American Eagle, and the renowned graphic novel Super Boxers, released in 1984. His other credits include What If?, Luke Cage: Hero for Hire, Marvel Two-In-One, The Thing, Masters of the Universe (Star Comics), Captain Britain, World Championship Wrestling, and Arion the Immortal, among many others as well as covers.

The panel will also premiere footage from Icons: Face to Face, a cutting-edge VR project featuring Stan and Kevin Smith, coming soon from Legion M, the world’s first fan-owned media company.

Writing for Television, Film, and Comics with J. Michael Straczynski

Michael Straczynski (JMS) once again shares his knowledge with new writers to help them break in and improve their work. Note: This is not a lecture but rather uses a Q&A format, so come equipped with good questions.

Who’s the Most Neurotic Superhero?

Ever since the dawn of Marvel’s “superheroes with real problems,” costumed adventurers have been letting their psychological damage show. Spider-Man’s guilt and insecurity, Batman’s tango with trauma, Captain America’s survivor’s guilt, Jessica Jones’s smorgasbord of symptoms, and Star-Lord’s daddy issues are just some of the mental challenges that modern superheroes deal with. Dr. Travis Langley (Batman and Psychology), R. Sikoryak (Masterpiece Comics), Dr. Janina Scarlet (Superhero Therapy), Alex Langley (The Geek Handbook), and moderator Danny Fingeroth (Superman on the Couch) hold a lively discussion of the psychological challenges that many heroes (and some villains, too) deal with.
