The following information where all released at the Marvel Studio Panel at the SDCC
To begin we have the official synopsis for Spider-Man: Homecoming
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
While admittedly short on detail, we can say that, one, it does take place after Captain America: Civil War, of course, and two, due to that event his profile as Spider-Man has been elevated and the movie will deal with his increased profile.
We also have confirmation on some of the characters and who is playing them
Zendaya Coleman is Michelle
(presumably a new take on Michele Gonzales, Peter Parker’s one-time roommate in the main book)
Tony Revolori is Flash Thompson
Jacob Batalon is Ned Leeds
Laura Harrier is Liz Allen.
Now I could do my take on them, but to be honest I have no idea who these people are, so it wouldn’t be fair to comment.
But before everything above was revealed, people who were lucky enough to attend, unfortunately I wasn’t, were given the opportunity to see the very first piece of footage of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
and for my thoughts on it from what I heard, all I can is I wish I was there to see it in person, because it sounded awesome, exactly how Spider-Man should be, and not the stuff they try to feed us in the main comic. That’s why I am expecting big things from the movie.
Which according to multiple sources the footage went like this
It opened up to song “Bad Reputation” playing over a batch of yearbook photos, after which it switches over to a typical day at Midtown High for Peter Parker.
We then see Peter Parker in class checking out his fight against Giant-Man on Youtube. During which, the teacher asks the class a difficult question, which Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) answers incorrectly. Then the teacher asks the same of Peter, who while he was not paying attention, due to him watching his fight, easily gives the right answer, which attracts animosity from Flash Thompson.
Next, Peter and his friend, Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), are taking part in a typical high school activity, that being, checking out girls as they walk by them in the hall. Peter then says “We have to stop this before it gets creepy,” but not before Michelle (Zendaya Coleman) catches them and says “Too late“. Next we see Peter in the chemistry lab where he is secretly hard-at-work on his web fluid formula instead of his school work.
We then switch to a study group scene where Peter gets a text and has to leave quickly. and as he’s leaving, Michelle asks “Where are you always disappearing to, Parker?” which flusters Peter, forcing him to try to come up with something believable, but luckily Michelle immediately follows-up with a brutal “Just kidding, I don’t care what you do.” After which we see montage of Spidey in action – climbing walls, fighting bad guys, running on vehicles – ending with the final reveal which of course is the film’s villain, The Vulture, who is seen zooming down a tube in his battle-ready armour.
And to go even further, Marvel has also released a piece concept art depicting an aerial fight between Spider-Man and The Vulture

@Garrett: Adaptations need to change things as necesarry whilst keeping to the spirit of the original story.
Which this casting of Ned doesn’t do. The problems would be mitigated if the character was called Kenny Kong instead of Ned Leeds.
@Garrett – I don’t mind that much if an adaptation changes the timeline of when people became friends to have them meet earlier (i.e. Peter and Gwen being friends in high school in the Spec Spidey cartoon)*. But Peter and Ned were never friends. They both worked at the Bugle, they were rivals for Betty, and Peter slept with Betty after she and Ned were married. This is completely changing their relationship, making them friends when they never were. It would be like making Lance Bannon or Nick Katzenburg Peter’s friend in high school.
* For some reason I feel this way with adaptations of the comics in movies/tv shows, but when it comes to other comics I will not accept it. The fact that the “Spidey” comic has Peter and Gwen knowing each other in high school just infuriates me for some reason. Because it’s a comic it just reminds me that the editor doesn’t seem to care about continuity.
@2, I personally don’t really have a big problem with it. While die-hards like you and I would love to see a new Harry Osborn, I can understand the fear of fatigue from the general audience over another Goblin storyline. Sure, this wasn’t Ned’s role in the original comics, but every adaption makes changes. This is not one to throw a fit over or one that will change the entire mythos such as Uncle Ben living or Aunt May being shot, etc.
They did promise Spider-Man’s eyes would get bigger and bigger with each movie and just going by the promo art they look a little bigger too. Very cool!
I guess they wanted to give Peter a friend in high school, and they didn’t want to use Harry again, but Ned Leeds?
I guess they were thinking of all those issues where Peter and Ned were such good friends … oh wait, they never were. Peter disliked Ned when he first appeared because he was a rival for Betty, then Betty chose Ned which made Peter dislike him more.
Then we didn’t see Betty or Ned for a hundred issues until their marriage. Peter was happy for them, having gotten over Betty long ago, but he and Ned weren’t friends. Immediately after their marriage, they were having trouble, with Peter and Betty ending up spending the night together. Ned was angry at finding Betty with Peter (no, not THAT way) and physically attacked him. Then came the Hobgoblin. So no, Peter and Ned were never friends.
I think the filmmakers just looked through the Lee/Ditko issues for a male character that Peter could be friends with that hadn’t already been used. I don’t think any of the high school/ESU group were given names besides Flash, Liz, Harry, Gwen, and Sally.
A Diamond Selects Toy panel aslo leaked that Tinkerer and Shocker are in the movie.
