  1. @#48: Ben Reilly had the memories from Peter circa the time at which the tissue sample was taken. Then Jackal gave him some of Peter’s RNA (?) which updated his memories.

Now I’d say a clone of Peter circa the Superior arc shouldn’t have Otto’s memories but bear in mind everything regarding the clones and their memories is pseudo science bs

  2. Whether or not that’s REALLY the Jackal is pretty much going to turn out exactly the same as how the Goblin King said he was Norman, but was REALLY “Mason Banks”… who was really Norman. While we’re going to see what we get, there’s going to be some “twist” that doesn’t actually change anything, and is only there because you wouldn’t have guessed it.

  3. Bodies can be cloned. Apparently memories can be cloned (re Ben Reilly) but personalities can’t be cloned.

  4. @44- I’m not sure if Ock clones would have Peter’s personality with them being after Dying Wish. Normally I would say no, as I’m not sure somebody else’s brain patterns ultimately impact the personality of the clones or if they maintain the original persona. Then again, this is Dan Slott writing. Also, cloning is the biggest scapegoat ever (moreso than Fury’s LMDs) so I’m guessing it’ll just be Doc Ock because Slott-Plot.

Or maybe it IS an LMD.

  5. We do have an Anubis in Marvel continuity, but I think it is doubtful that this is he. If it is the Jackal, like it certainly seems with him sharing champagne with Gwen, then at least he is not longer furry and green.

However, I do have a few thoughts about Doc Ock. In the image, we see old style Doc Ock (with updated tech). It looks like he is clearly a villain again. However, the Doc Ock that is in the Living Brain has to be one where he has Spider-Man’s sense of responsibility because he is in love with Anna Maria.

So, what if the Jackal if making clones of the loved ones of all of Spider-Man’s enemies because he wants them to fight for him, but since Doc Ock is dead, he just makes a clone of old Ock to join his group. However, the real Ock in the Living Brain is furious with all of this and also comes back to fight alongside (however uneasy an alliance it would be) with Spider-Man to defeat this impostor and the one who made it? Ock has no love for Warren anyway. This could be a way to bring back both Doc Ock as a villain and Superior Spider-Man as a questionable hero. That might be interesting. We know Slott can write the heck out of a Superior Spider-Man story.

Just a thought. For that matter, if Jackal clones Ock from the corpse, would it still be Peter’s mind in it?

  6. I wonder if the big shocking twist is going to be whoever is actually under the Jackal mask. Could be Warren has put his mind into a clone of Peter/Otto/Norman/FACADE or whoever. Or just a new Jackal, I suppose. That chin doesn’t look like Warren’s.

But yeah, ‘oh they’re all clones’ rather undermines the whole ‘dead no more’ thing.

I suppose it could be a bait-and-switch and the Man in Red is someone else who just happens to have similiar dress sense (headwear aside) to Jackal.

But clearly the big reveal is meant to be the new Doc Ock or whoever.

  7. @ #37 maybe she has dozens of the same outfit, like Jughead?
Yeh, I know, whole other comic company.

  8. Hmm, Interesting. I know Marvel wouldn’t do it, But It would be pretty shock if Mephisto was behind this. Telling Peter that while he cannot mess directly to Peter, but telling he can still use others to mess with him.

  9. Y’know, you’d think the Gwen Stacy clone would have gone shopping for new clothes by now.

  10. @#35 Yvonmukluk — More like Clone Saga III: In Search of the 90s. Because you have to count the original Gwen Stacy clone story from the 1970s.

And yes, it looks like we definitely are dealing with clones again in Dead No More, as the Gwen Stacy and the Man in the Red Suit wearing an Anubis mask are huge giveaways.

  11. Others have guessed this is the Jackal with his new look being Anubis. Since he was the Egyptian God of the Dead. What has Miles Warren been best at besides clones? Bringing back the dead in many forms. Yet, this basically the Clone Saga III. I’m thinking that Doc Ock might be Miles Spidercide 2.0. The body of Peter Parker with the morphing ability with Otto’s mind.

  12. Damn, this book needs new blood. Spidey has jumped the shark about 20 times since 2007 or so. These EPIC events that “change everything (until next summer’s event)” are no substitute for good, down to earth story-telling. I can’t identify with this Peter Parker anymore. I couldn’t recount what’s happened to this character in the last five years if you had a gun to my head. Slott has made such a mess of everything.

  13. How much for the bridge? I’ll charge less than the other tolls and everyone will want to drive across it.

  14. About time we got a Gwen image. Though the jackal mask right next to her probably explains who’s the man in the red suit and how all these people are going to be revived…

  15. OMG!!!! That fifth image!!!! SUCH a huge shocker! No one saw that coming! No one at all!!!!!!11!1!

And I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, plus some swampland in Florida.

  16. So, are these demonized versions of the classic Spidey villains? Like Madame Masque was a demonized version of herself over in Iron Man?

  17. @#10: Mattie Franklin was introduced int he Gathering of Five and she was in Grim Hunt so yes.

    @#14: I agree

  18. @ #18 marvel hath decreed the marriage shall not returneth,.
Cursed be the nameth of marvel.

  19. I think this is finally the story line where everything goes back to normal. The marriage is no longer dead. Villains who have died since the deal, come back to life as if the last six years never happened.

  20. There is something colored a familiar red and blue inside the Lizard’s coat pocket. Maybe just pens, though — I can’t tell.

  21. I’m still bitter about the Mephisto deal changing the past and don’t really buy into the fact everything else after the non-wedding happened as normal. That’s just not how things happen when someone messes with time.

  22. The 2nd image is the new spider suit, so I dunno what you are seeing…

The Beetle is Mach 6 or whatever number he goes by now (former Thunderbolt), the current Beetle is Superior Foe/Fake Sinister “Six” member aka daughter of Tombstone.

  23. What do I think? I think I’m still not interested. They’re bringing back people from the dead… but they couldn’t heal a bullet wound.

  24. Observations:

In the first image, the two on the right (I do not know who these characters are) have their eyes glowing whereas nobody else does. I’m guessing that is a clue that these “back from the dead” characters are not really back from the dead?

In the second image, Spider-Man doesn’t seem to be wearing his new costume. This seems to be just a regular one. In fact, it doesn’t even seem to fit very well. Plus, those tentacles that are presumably Ock’s are not normal. Maybe a misdirection and it is not Ock (we don’t see who is controlling them)? Probably it is, and just new tentacles made from the carcass of the Living Brain or something. But they seem more like how the Terminator 2 guy looked.

In the third image, none of them are dead right now. I know Madame Web had her throat cut and all, but didn’t she gain immortality from the Gathering of the Five? We saw Kaine emerging from the Other in the Spider-Verse, and Prowler is stll alive and kicking, unless he dies in an upcoming issue. So I’m guessing they might be the all star cast to pull Spidey’s butt out of the fire. Plus, what is that dark thing in the left hand corner? A fist? A smoke trail? Obviously there is at least one other image that ties this together with the other two.

All the fire, does this mean we are in hell? Or is Johnny Storm upset again for some reason?

  25. Yay or nay?

Yay! Kaine’s active again and back in 616! Love Kaine…

Nay…another Spider in the already blotted club of Spiders…

  26. @#6 – I’m happy Kaine’s back, but it’s kind of weird to see him and Prowler on a cover for “Dead No More” when we know they’re both not dead. Slott was the even one who was responsible for keeping Kaine alive in Spider-Verse. At least Ock’s tentacles and classic Madame Web seem more appropriate.

So I’m guessing the big “reveal” covers are going to be Doc Ock’s new body and Gwen.

  27. I thought the third image would bring people jumping with glee over the inclusion of Kaine in this story.

On the other hand, Slott is writing it so, um, yeah. I can understand not jumping.

  28. Oh wait – or Prowler?
Not back from the dead is the chance of me buying ASM in
    the very near future.

  29. With Madame Webs return hopefully this also means the return of Silver Sable and Mattie Franklin, especially Sable.

  30. I’ve figured that this story would be Doc Ock’s return, but I’m surprised to see that he might be center stage.
