Upcoming Spider-Man Marvel reboot director Jon Watts spoke with Empire Magazine (on stands now) about the upcoming MCU Spidey film. In the interview, Watts discussed Uncle Ben, Spidey’s age and Spider-actor Tom Holland.
Some minor spoilers below the fold, so beware.

“There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben,” he said in an interview with Empire Magazine (issue 317, out this week). Marvel president Kevin Feige already confirmed back in April that Spidey’s origin wouldn’t be told for a third time in 15 years on the big screen.
Watts also talked about the film’s tone, making reference of classic John Hughes films, much like Feige has previously. “I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie,” Watts said. “We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now.”
Regarding Tom Holland in the role:
“Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man.”

Holland is nineteen now. Even if they explicitly state his age in Civil War, I don’t think I’d be able to buy him as 14. It’s more believable than Andrew Garfield playing 17/18, sure, but if Peter is supposed to be going through puberty? Holland’s going to be 21 playing a 15 year old by the 2017 film… if they want to do multiple movies set in high school, they’re going to run into the same problem as the past films.
The plan could be for him to be 15 now, but plans change. With the exception of the Incredible Hulk and first two Iron Man films, all the MCU films take place in realtime. The Avengers took place a year after Thor. Thor 2 took place 2 years after the first film. Cap 2 took place 2 years after The Avengers.
From 2016 to 2019, Marvel’s already got everything planned. Civil War, Thor 3, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Infinity War, and Inhumans…
Unless they squeeze another Spidey movie in there, I don’t see how we can get more than one solo movie set in high school.
Civil War and the solo movie, there’s freshman and sophmore year right there, presumably.
The director is pretty specific that he is fifteen in the solo movie, which is set a year after Captain America, which is set a year after the spider-bite.
The timeline isn’t that faulty. If he’s 15 now and has been Spidey for a little over a year by the time of Cap 3, then that would put the spider bite at 14. Unless he’s 15, about to turn 16. He’ll probably be 16 on the cusp of 17 in the solo movie, and graduating high school by the time of Infinity War.
It means they’ll only have one real movie set in high school, but in terms of the coming of age aspect? We’ll literally be seeing him become a man.

Actually, this would put the spider bite at 13, since he’s supposed to have been Spider-Man for a year in Captain America: Civil War. And from what I’ve read, this take solace a year after that film.

The new Peter Parker was bitten by the Spider when he was only 14??
Maybe he got bit on his 15th birthday and when we see him onscreen he’s 15 years, 11 months, 30 days old?
Peter is supposed to have been Spider-man for a year already and he is only fifteen? Wow.
