Drew Goddard Comments On New Spider-Movie

You may remember that earlier this year that Drew Goddard was rumored to be the choice to direct the new Marvel produced Sony “threeboot” of Spidey. But that never came to pass. This is most likely a good thing, as Goddard and his involvement with the Sinister Six movie at Sony was revealed via the Sony email hacks this past summer:

He’s (Sandman) gonna storm through London at the end like God-f***ing-zilla.   That is not purple prose.  He’s going to be AS TALL AS A SKYSCRAPER in the third act of the movie.  What does Dr. Strange have?  Magic tricks?  F*** you, magic tricks — we’ve got a skyscraper Tom Hardy knocking down buildings!!!!

Ahem. Yes. And in the interest of trying to look professional, let me say that Dr. Strange would kick Sandman’s ass so hard his great-great-grandkids would feel it. What does Sandman have? Grains of sand? F*** you, grains of sand! Dr. Strange has gone toe-to-toe with Shuma Effin’ Gorath!

Sorry. Where was I? Oh, right. So, Goddard – who exited the Daredevil Netflix series in order to work for Sony’s Spider-Man projects, pre-Disney/Sony deal (which almost sparked a lawsuit) – commented to Cinema Blend about why he is no longer involved with Spider-Movies:

I mean, I think that’s more a question for them, but here’s the good news. I’ve worked with Marvel a lot. The way that Marvel sort of works is they say, ‘Hey, do you have an idea for… Here’s the movies we’re thinking about making…’ They sort of tell the world what they’re thinking of making, and they sort of put out there, if you have an idea for any of these, come talk to us.

And I think, with Spider-Man, I didn’t really have an idea. Part of that might have just been because I had just written one. I spent a year working on Sinister Six, and I think I was like in a head space where I just didn’t… you know, it’s very hard to say, ‘Ok, now write a new movie.’ So, it never got that far. We never, it never got taken that far. They know how much respect I have for them. They’ve been very nice to me over the years, and I know sooner or later, we’re going to find the right project. It’s all about timing.
