AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 & #5
DAN SLOTT (W) • GIUSEPPE CAMUNCOLI (A)
Covers by ALEX ROSS
• Not only has Spider-Man gone global – so have his enemies!
• Someone in Africa is masquerading as a member of the GOBLIN family!
• Where there’s goblins, there’s Spidey, and it’s up to everyone’s favorite wall-crawler to get to the bottom of what’s going on!
32 PGS. (each)/Rated T …$3.99 (each)
BD Commentary:It’s always good to see a Goblin back in the title. Who knows if it’s Norman, but it’d be nice. Those Alex Ross covers rock.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1.2
JOSE MOLINA (W) • SIMONE BIANCHI (A/ C)
VARIANT Cover by RYAN OTTLEY
• The dead are rising in Harlem!
• Spider-Man relearns why graveyards are terrifying.
• But things aren’t as simple as they seem (and they don’t even seem all that simple). How do the Santerians fit into all of this?
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
BD Commentary: Spidey meets the Walking Dead. Two brands that sell well. It’s almost like combining Gwen Stacey with Deadpool. Again, this book wouldn’t sell as well without the ASM title. Spider-Man: Living Dead would probablly sell 30 to 40,000 less. I understand why Marvel does this.
SILK #2
ROBBIE THOMPSON (W) • STACEY LEE (A)
Cover by HELEN CHEN
VARIANT Cover by FRED HEMBECK
VARIANT COVER BY BABS TARR
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY TBA
• SILK! BLACK CAT! IN CAHOOTS!
• But not everyone in Cat’s criminal crew are happy about it!
• Neither is everyone in Cindy’s life, including a certain CEO of Parker Industries.
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
BD Commentary: Like I’ve said on the podcast, this book has been surprisingly good. It’s also better than Spider-Gwen. Throw in some Black Cat and it sounds like a nice hook.
SPIDER-GWEN #3
JASON LATOUR (W) • ROBBI RODRIGUEZ (A/C)
VARIANT COVER BY TBA
• Still reeling from the events of SPIDER-VERSE, Gwen Stacy decides to pay a visit to Jessica Drew, AKA Spider-Woman!
• Gwen learns about her Earth-616 counterpart, and sees that the lesson that with great power, there must also come great responsibility applies in any reality.
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
BD Commentary: Why set up a world for Gwen to live in and then hop around universes dealing with other spiders? I mean she’s a drummer in a grunge band. I’m slowly loosing interest in this title. The cool costume can only go so far.
CARNAGE #3
GERRY CONWAY (W) • MIKE PERKINS (A)
Cover by MIKE DEL MUNDO
VARIANT COVER BY YASMINE PUTRI
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY MIKE DEODATO
• Trapped down in a mineshaft with Carnage, the situation for the FBI’s symbiote squad gets HAIRY when John Jameson loses his cool.
• You won’t want to miss th—AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
BD Commentary: I’m curious about this title. It seems to be the only place to find out what’s going on with Eddie Brock and John Jameson. I’m cautiously optimistic.
SPIDER-WOMAN #2
DENNIS HOPELESS (W) • JAVIER RODRIGUEZ (A/C)
VARIANT COVER BY MING DOYLE
• TRAPPED in an alien hospital with a bunch of other moms-to-be, Jessica Drew has suddenly found herself in over her head!
• It’s anything but business as usual as Jess realizes she’s the only person who can save the day – but only if she can keep herself and her baby safe in the process!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
BD Commentary: Maybe it’s me, but it bothers me that a pregnant woman is getting in fist fights. Also where in Maury Povitch to find out who’s the daddy?
WEB WARRIORS #2
MIKE COSTA (W) • DAVID BALDEON (A)
Cover by JULIAN TOTINO TEDESCO
VARIANT COVER BY GABRIELE DELL’OTTO
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY MARK BAGLEY
• SPIDER-GWEN STRANDED! Without her interdimensional timepiece to get her home, Gwen Stacy (AKA Spider-Woman) has no choice but to sit tight and wait to be rescued by the rest of the Web Warriors.
• Everyone’s favorite hoodie-wearing hero isn’t exactly a damsel in distress, though, is she?
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
BD Commentary: Ah so she has a magical timepiece to get her from A to B. The character of Gwen Stacy has gone so far away from what she was in the 1960s and 1970s. Is she Gwen in name only?
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #4
BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS (W) • DAVID MARQUEZ (A/C)
VARIANT COVER BY YASMINE PUTRI
• Tony is knee deep in trouble from enemies both old and new. But here comes MARY JANE WATSON AND HIS WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
BD Commentary: I like Bendis, I love Mary Jane. I should like her being in this title. Dan Slott has proven that he can’t write this character in the mainstream 616 universe. His Renew Your Vows Mary Jane was perfect, but that’s the Mary Jane he’s been writing for nearly a decade.
I really hope she’s not a romantic interest, but I’m sure Tony will make a move. Anyway, I’ve missed seeing Mary Jane on a monthly basis. If I have to read her in Iron Man, so be it.
SPIDEY #1
ROBBIE THOMPSON (w) • NICK BRADSHAW (a/C)
VARIANT COVER BY HUMBERTO RAMOS
HIP-HOP VARIANT BY GYIMAH GARIBA
YOUNG VARIANT BY SKOTTIE YOUNG
Think you know everything about Peter Parker’s early days? Think again. It’s action, adventure and a rip-roaring romp in classic Marvel style as SPIDEY swings onto shelves this winter! Featuring adventures from throughout the web-slinging wonder’s younger years, it’s a return to the days of overdue homework, not knowing how to talk to girls (or anybody, really) and just a plenty of danger. Witness some of Spidey’s earliest tangles with the likes of DOC OCK, SANDMAN and a host of other unexpected guests!
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
BD Commentary: This seems like an Untold Tales for the 21st century. I’m curious how long this book will go. There has been so many “untold tales” of Spidey that I wonder if there is any interest in it. I would of preferred a Spectacular Spider-Man title with a new writer.
STARBRAND & NIGHTMASK #1
GREG WEISMAN (w) • DOMO STANTON (a)
Cover by YASMINE PUTRI
Variant cover by Emanuela Lupacchino
HIP-HOP VARIANT BY KERON GRANT
YOUNG VARIANT BY SKOTTIE YOUNG
Two former Avengers with tremendous power – and almost zero life experience – are on their own, trying to find their place as HEROES, COSMIC ENTITIES and…COLLEGE STUDENTS? What meal plan will cover a cosmic metabolism? Can two all-powerful entities share a dorm room the size of roach motel? Can you safely teleport to Mars after partying all night long at your first kegger? Find out in Starbrand & Nightmask!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
BD Commentary: I had zero intention of picking up this book, until I saw who was writing it. Spectacular Spider-Man was my favorite Spidey cartoon and Greg Weisman made that happen. Also the idea of minor Spidey characters as supporting cast? Yeah sign me up. Sha Shan please make me a sandwitch as I put down my money for this book.
GWENPOOL SPECIAL #1
GERRY DUGGAN, CHARLES SOULE, CHRISTOPHER HASTINGS, VARIOUS (W)
DANILO BEYRUTH, LANGDON FOSS, GURIHIRU, VARIOUS (A)

GWENPOOL VARIANT BY ROBBI RODRIGUEZ
SHE-HULK VARIANT BY EMANEULA LUPACCHINO
DEADPOOL VARIANT BY TBA

• She-Hulk throws a holiday party and invites the entire Marvel U!
• Deadpool teams up with both Hawkeyes – Kate and Clint – to…stop a pickpocket?!
• Ms. Marvel takes on her most dangerous threat yet: the holiday blues!
• And then there’s the reason for the season(al special): GWENPOOL!
• Yup, you read that right – Gwen. Pool. C’mon, you know you’re curious.
50 PGS./Rated T …$5.99
BD Commentary: This is Marvel throwing things against the wall seeing if it will stick and sell.
VENOM: SPACE KNIGHT #2
ROBBIE THOMPSON (W) • ARIEL OLIVETTI (A/C)
VARIANT Cover by MIKE ALLRED
• Between missions with the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Venom fights strange, violent aliens and helps strange, peaceful aliens. Aliens can be strange, is what we’re saying.
• All the while, he’s being trailed by a mysterious warship! Are its operators violent or peaceful?
• Flash and his Klyntar are working better than ever, but there’s a lot Flash doesn’t know about being an Agent of the Cosmos. And what he doesn’t know could kill him!
32 PGS./Parental Advisory …$3.99
BD Commentary: One cover has Venom fighting a space ship, the other cover has his fighting space crabs. When you’re out in the cosmos, practice safe sex. I really don’t know what to make of this book. Flash has done nothing in the Guardians book that makes me want him to have a solo book.
SPIDER-MAN 2099 #4
PETER DAVID (W) • WILL SLINEY (A)
Cover by FRANCESCO MATTINA
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY Pasqual Ferry
• A mysterious stranger from the future arrives in New York, and he’s got Spider-Man dead in his sights!
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
BD Commentary: It’s nice to see the Captain America from Secret Wars sticking around. She had a lot of potential. I’m not really digging the new 2099 Spidey costume. The original was a classic.
MARVEL UNIVERSE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN SPIDER-VERSE #2 (OF 4)
Adapted by Joe Caramagna
SPIDER-VERSE CONTINUES!
• Spider-Man fights Loki and Doctor Octopus with the help of Spider-Man Noir and the great Spider-Ham!
• Spider-Verse Part 2
32 PGS./All Ages …$2.99
BD Commentary: This one is evidently screen shots from the cartoon. It’s aimed at the grade school set.

ISBN: 978-0-7851-9537-5

BD Commentary: Spider-Verse was very hot and cold. It also had one of the worst scenes between Spidey and Uncle Ben that ruined the whole saga for me. Again, you’re saving money buy buying the trades instead of the singles. Or you could buy a Marvel digital subscription and save even more money.
@11 I haven’t read his Silver Surfer run but from what I have heard it is essentially Doctor Who!
I read it in the trade collection of the book that’s coming out.
Love the commentary Brad! Quick question – where did we hear that Eddie Brock would be in the Carnage series? If he’s there, I’d be pretty interested to see where they take him. Thanks!
The idea of a new Zodiac Gang, I really wish they would pick an idea and make it work. They tried after Geoff Johns brought them back but then it fell apart. Then you had the one character called Zodiac that Joe Casey tried to work out. Then Bendis had a pretty good idea with them being pawns of Thanos. Maybe an international version might work.
Change for the sake of change. Change attracts attention.
@8 – “Probably Slott’s doing, he is a big fan.”
I have never seen an episode of Doctor Who, but just from skimming his Silver Surfer run that is glaringly obvious.”
I’ve really liked Silk so far. Might end up dropping it for budgetary reasons, but I recommend it to anyone who’s looking to pick up another Spider-book.
This new direction for Venom confuses me. Didn’t they -just- reinvent the character in a way that was pretty well-received? His series ran 42 issues, which is farther than most have gotten at Marvel in the last few years. Why is he getting re-reinvented already?
Re-stated from the message boards: I do hope that Bendis successfully rehabs the character of MJ Watson as a valuable cast-member with wit and agency, from the damage that Slott has inflicted on her over the years.
There’s a guy in the London bus that looks just like the new Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi), just thought I would point that out 🙂 Probably Slott’s doing, he is a big fan.
So the cover for ASM #4 with the glider…..Where is the title going to go that doesn’t ruin the cover?
Really digging the commentary on these solicits.
1) “The character of Gwen Stacy has gone so far away from what she was in the 1960s and 1970s”
Kind of like Flash? I love the episode where Josh quotes some dialogue from Flash where he’s in deep space saying “I always knew I’d die like this.” and Josh says “Yeah, the character from Amazing Fantasy #15 always knew that he’d die in outer space, bonded with an alien symbiote.” I believe he had also just had sex with Valkyrie.
2) “Sha Shan please make me a sandwitch”. Somewhere Josh just yelled out “YEAH!”
3) “This is Marvel throwing things against the wall seeing if it will stick and sell.”
“the other cover has his fighting space crabs. When you’re out in the cosmos, practice safe sex.”
Is it just me or is Brad starting to sound like George?
NOTE: I miss the “check here to be sent emails for subsequent comments.” I never know which articles have follow-up comments.
Gonna buy ASM 1.2 and SPIDEY. Spider-Man looks funny wearing those graduation cloths.
I can tell you there’s interest for Spidey, because it’s the only book I’m remotely interested in.
I am listening to too much Crawlspace Podcast. My posts are starting to sound like Berryman typed them…
You just know they’re going to create romantic friction between Tony and MJ for 1) Controversy and 2) the mandatory love angle. It’ll last a season (since that’s what we’re doing now, Marvel, right? Seasons? In comics?) and then new status quos get installed and I’m yawning.
And I also just knew Spider-Gwen would get pushed into 616 (confirming that this new MU bull is still being called “616”…cause nothing will ever be the same). You could feel that itch Marvel had to get this Gwen into the mainstream universe. Question is, will she stay? Cause…whatever, I’m getting drowsy again…YAWN.
So glad we got this big game changing, world destroying Marvel event all to get a couple of guys into 616.
Speaking off, all cynicism aside, the one, and ONLY, book I’m going to read, I still see no solics for…Where’s Miles?
I really like how your doing commentary for the solicitations! Please keep up the spidey love and good work with your web site!
