New Series Within Continuity Starring Teenaged Peter Parker!

But long before he swung from rooftops as the Amazing Spider-Man, he was just a spider-powered teenager who knew that “with great power must also come great responsibility.” Today, Marvel is pleased to announce SPIDEY #1 – a brand-new ongoing series launching as part of All-New, All-Different Marvel! Follow the adventures of teenaged Peter Parker in a new series set within continuity from rising star writer Robbie Thompson (TV’s Supernatural, Silk) and blockbuster Marvel Young Gun artist Nick Bradshaw (Wolverine and the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy)!

@17 – No, I think the point of bringing Miles to the main universe was to appeal to Bendis (and those who want Spider-Man race replaced). But he’s not, and will never be, the real deal to most of the general public. And no doubt Disney — or Marvel — would like to have some all-ages books out there that get the kids into characters like Spider-Man while reflecting the age of Peter in the coming film.
@18 – Two years can be a *long* time. That’s how long the Superior Spider-Man run was. As someone who wasn’t buying Spider-Man comics for the first time in, well, ever, that was a long time.

Then it’s really not in continuity. I was also thinking the crop of villains would be awfully limited given the few issues Peter was portrayed in high school. I thought the point of bringing Miles into the universe was to appeal to those who wanted a high school Spidey? This is just becoming too convoluted.

@#13 – Yeah, that was odd. It seems that, while it’s meant to be in continuity, Marvel is giving Thompson enough of a free pass to let him use whatever villains he wants to even if they debuted later than Peter’s early years as Spidey. Presumably so he’s not stuck with just reusing the classic villains of that period.
I really wouldn’t worry about if it contradicts continuity or not. It’s an “all-ages” title to coincide with the movie coming out soon and to appease those that think Peter works best in high school.
It’s set within regular continuity, he’s still in high school, yet he’s already fighting the White Rabbit? Am I missing a retcon that made her into a long time villain?

I’m looking forward to this, though I do hope they make a point to not contradict the old ASM stories.

I’m more excited about this than the other spider titles. Peter Parker becoming a Tony Stark clone sounds
like a terrible idea, and I’m not interested in Miles Morales, so I will give this a shot.
I’m OK with it. Just please put out one Spiderman book with an adult spiderman, i.e. one with some continuity from the beginning. It will always carry a readership of at least 50,000 per month, so why not do that and then print out whatever else they want: single spiderman, gender-reassignment spiderman, whatever…
I’ll wait for the trade.

I looked at the images, and in the second one there are a couple of panels with Peter not wearing his glasses. He didn’t stop wearing glasses until issue #8 (?) so we shouldn’t be seeing flashbacks from AF #15 where he wasn’t wearing his glasses.
I’ll think about it.
“a brand-new ongoing series launching as part of All-New, All-Different Marvel!” That’s right, this book is all-new, all-different. Except for Learning to Crawl. And Untold Tales of Spider-Man. And Amazing Fantasy 16-18. And that mini-series where young Peter dated that 40-something floozy. But besides all of that, it’s all-different!
Holy crap, Marvel acknowledged that Spidey was only in high school for 30 issues! My mind is blown!
I’ll probably pick this up. It probably won’t contradict the ASM stories, but the first time is contradicts Untold Tales, it’s gone.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. I suppose it could be interesting. I’d like buy the trade paperbacks.
