This is in reference to the news of Bruce Jenner changing his/her name to Caitlyn Jenner. Bell  has since deleted the tweet after several people called him being insensitive. Bell had several follow up tweets that said.

Good thing social media has no effect on real life

I’m not dissing him! I just don’t want to forget his legacy! He is the greatest athlete of all time! Chill out!

Calm down children.

What do you think of Bell? Was he out of line? Would Spider-Man approve?

  1. Yes it was insensitive and I would like to believe spidey would not approve but I cant know for sure since there is no spidey comic that has tackled transgender issues. At least to my knowledge anyway. Yes he is allowed to that opinion but that does not make it any less transphobic. Especially taking into account his follow up tweets which were of a very ridiculing nature. and caitlyn is a her. Not a he/she, not a their, not a he. Please respect her person by using the correct pronoun and the name she chose for herself. Sorry for the long rant.

  2. @9 Well, yeah, any moron who pulls the “I’M NOT BEING AN INTOLERANT PRICK, I’M JUST USING THE CORRECT NAME” card, it immediately becomes fair game to ask why they don’t insist on calling every public figure who uses a not-legally-correct name by their birthname. (And a pretty high percentage of celebs are not known by their “real” names, especially nowadays when most of the common names are taken and they want to be unique.)

  3. I wonder, does he refuse to say the name Muhammed Ali also? He changed his name.. same thing.

  4. Yes. Out of line. Bell could still pay tribute to Jenner’s past athletic achievements without being intolerant of Caitlyn’s coming out.

  5. No. Mockery is one thing. But kow-towingto the latest insanity is not required.

  6. Kinda think Bell was being an asshole here. If Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner wants to change their name, let alone anything else about him/herself, then that’s up to them and their preferences should be respected. If someone called Johnathan wants you to refer to them as John then the polite thing to do is agree. It is their name after all

  7. Well I guess I have another reason not to like Drake Bell…

Sorry Drake…. still gonna call you The Mediocre Spider-Man!

  8. Says the guy who voices Spider-man like a girl. I’m sorry, was that insensitive?

  9. What he thinks is up to him, but taking the time to announce it to his thousands of followers is kinda dickish, yeah.
