I hadn’t planned on seeing Ant-Man in the theater. Nothing about it has “grabbed” me, so to speak, and I’ve been annoyed that it’s Scott Lang and not Hank Pym. As a big fan of Giant-Man and the Wasp, I’ve been a little ticked that two original Avengers have basically been tossed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe dustbin.
But that’s changed now. It’s gone from “I’ll catch it on BluRay” to “I’ll probably have to see it at the dollar theater later this year.” After a press screening last night it was revealed that Ant-Man will have two end teaser scenes (which have been described as ‘huge’) and that the movie will be the first to reference Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Also, Marvel held a press screening of the film last night and allowed folks to talk about it. The important thing to come out of the screening is that there are 2 post-credit scenes and they are supposedly worth the price of admission. The film also is said to contain the first reference to Spider-Man. You can check Twitter for more thoughts as they seem to be everywhere.

@17, @18 – The interview was from 2014 but Collider just now posted it. Probably because of a production embargo stipulating they not release it until a certain time. As of 2013 Hickman’s O’Grady was Ant-Man, so we can safely assume she was speaking of Hickman’s Ant-Man as “total crap.”
@#16 I’m still trying to wrack my head around figuring out what Marvel could have given her…maybe O’Grady’s run, which I could understand why she’d dislike, or MC2 issues featuring Hope? It couldn’t have been the current run because she says Scott wasn’t in it.
Still, I think it shows well on her that she’s interested in reading up more on Janet and Hank as well as the older comics :).
@16 – I have never read any Ant-Man but I assumed because they were making Scott AM in the movie that he was the current AM in the comics – who is it? And if she asked Marvel for some Ant-Man comics why wouldn’t they give her any that contained Scott as AM or at least early ones with Hank as AM with Janet as well. That’s like the new Spidey actor asking Marvel for some comics to use as research and they gave him the Miles Morales: Spider-Man run.

@13 – Marvel has made mistakes. The PC hand-wringing over the Mandarin being Asian is an example. Know who doesn’t have a problem with Asian bad guys in movies? Asians.
But box office-wise I suspect Ant-Man is going to be their first box office disappointment. I’m not sitting here hoping for it; in fact I hope I’m wrong.
@14 – The writing in Green Lantern was bad to the point of being insulting. The writing for ASM2 came very close to being as bad as Green Lantern.
Marvel has done a lot better movie to movie than DC, obviously. I mean, the Green Lantern movie was on cable the other night, and good god that thing is awful.
I was planning on seeing Ant Man, but I’m not expecting much. I wonder if it’ll just be a reference to a genetically modified / irradiated spider or if we’ll actually see an an actor get bit by a spider in these teasers (not Tom Holland, but maybe a stand in whose face the audience doesn’t see).
Marvel not made a mistake yet? Well,that’s a matter of each indivudual’s opinion. Not EVERYthing Marvel does is gold,and they’ve made mistakes,but that’s just my personal opinion. I know box office says otherwise,lol.
Looking forward to Ant-Man though.
No Ant-Man for me. Sad too, I have really been looking forward to it. But the funds aren’t there.
I’m expecting this to be mid-tier MCU, nothing great, nothing terrible, just a bit of fun to kill some time. The after-credits scenes and Spidey reference are likely to be the only things I’ll remember about the movie for more than a week.

Seriously though, Marvel really f’d up with Hank & Jan. Both Hank & Jan deserved to be in the MCU & Avengers movie before Clint & Natasha. Feige has really failed those two characters.
I hadn’t planned on seeing Ant Man either. Like a lot of folks have said, if it was Hank and Jan, it would be entirely different, but I have absolutely no frame of reference for Scott Lang. Don’t think I’ve ever read a single comic with him in it.
(Of course, I never read any Guardians of the Galaxy comics either, and look how that turned out!)
That being said, it only makes sense to make a Spider-Man reference in Ant Man. Maybe in Hank’s experiments with the insect world, he was also experimenting a bit on arachnids…and Peter (on an internship) got his life-altering bite.
I have heard that hank pym is in the suit in a flash back sequence along with wasp… So maybe they will at some point tie in with agent carter at some point in the future? Or is it the past… I’m keen to see this because marvel haven’t made a mistake yet. If they can make gaudians of the galaxy amazing I’m sure that antman is going to be an awesome movie!
Aw man. I didn’t want to see this at all, now I feel obligated. I thought the trailer was horrendous. Looked like a parody of a Marvel film. At least Paul Rudd is usually entertaining, regardless of what he’s in. I did read somewhere (I forget where) that Wasp was supposed to be in this. Though I imagine she’s “in it” in the same sense that Felica Hardy and Smythe were in ASM 2.

Honestly, I want to give this movie a fair shot, but the aging of Hank and pretty much just fridging and removing Janet has really left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I like Scott well enough, and I also really like Cassie, but a movie about Hank would probably be a lot more interesting and complex movie than what we’re getting. Not that it’ll be bad, and I’ll probably still enjoy it, but still.
And not having Janet as Wasp is the biggest disappointment. The first female Avenger, someone who’s even led the team and actually named them, and a great character like Janet just up and gets replaced by someone who’s practically an original character? Really Marvel?
Saw Jurassic World today and the latest trailer for Ant Man was on. When Scott introduced himself as Ant Man, admitting what a lame name it was, I half expected him to say something like “but they all have these names – Iron Man, Giant Man, I heard there was a kid calling himself Spider-Man now …”
