I’ve mentioned this before, but whenever I hear Marvel talk about renumbering it reminds me of the Groo the Wanderer comic back in the 90s when writer Sergio Aragones repeatedly said in the comic that he wanted to renumber every issue to be #1 because “#1s sell better!”
As for naming books “TITLE YYYY #1-12”, that would still be confusing because the month on the cover doesn’t match up with the real-world month. So “Amazing Spider-Man 2016 #1-12” would start April 2016 and end April 2017. Or Sept 2015 to Sept 2016. I never could understand those months on the covers, so very confusing.

I don’t put that level of jackassery past Alonso or Brevoort.
With their recent talk of comic books as “seasons” (another instance where Quesada’s NuMarvel has tried to make comics something other than comics) I am assuming at some point that Marvel will start renumbering by year. In essence, Amazing Spider-Man 2016 #1-12, Amazing Spider-Man 2017 #1-12, etc.
But then again that would have a structure, coherency and consistency that often eludes the incurious former House of Ideas.
Let’s just make each issue #1! That outta keep the sales high and not make anyone feel like going back and getting 5 issues is an overwhelming task. I’m sure making #1 meaningless will not backfire in the long run in anyway. Just awesome sales from here to the end of time.
@#4 – Well…I’m kinda interested in whether Silk’s book will be continuing. It’s actually been quite enjoyable.
Yawn. At least she’s staying – mostly – in her own universe.
No particular problem with rebooting the numbering when a new creative team/direction starts – I don’t think there’s much to be gained from numbering into treble digits across multiple runs nowadays, unless you’ve got a situation like Bendis on Ult Spidey where the same writer/plot does last that long. Writer runs on superhero comics are so contained within themselves at this point that they might as well break them up and flag the jumping on point.
Some of the mid-run relaunches are a bit much though – I guess in the case of Spider-Gwen it’s just to fit in with the rest of the line, but you don’t want to risk creating a jumping-off point. Maybe they were worried that if almost every book is getting a #1 for a new team/direction, the few that were just continuing as before might get buried.

@7 – Yeah but with those we knew they’d be limited series. Right now we’re at a point with Marvel where everything (even stuff like ASM) is probably going to be a 4, 6, 8 or 12 part minis.
@5 – Technically, in the 90s Venom got a new number #1 after each #4 issue.

I’ll count this issue as Spider-Gwen #6. Calling this another ‘#1’ sounds stupid.
I’m more interested in reading volume 4, which based on the progression of Marvel’s publishing habits should start in December.
I’m confused, are they doing a relaunch already? Is it that hard for people to catch up on 5 issues? I’m glad to see this series in the spotlight, and I’ll enjoy reading more, but a new #1 seems unnecessary after less than a year.
