I WANT to buy RYV, but don’t trust the writing team to get the characters right and am gonna wait on reviews to see if I should bother.
Ummmmm, no Spider-Gwen this month????
I’ll wait and see if RYV is worth buying
as a collection.
Honestly, I’m thinking probably won’t be.
MAKE MINE MARVEL!! Cos it sure saves
a lot of money not buying as many issues
as I used to since OMD and marvel’s
snarky attitude to fans.
Spider-Island, Spider-verse, and the Mighty Defenders (mainly because of She-Hulk though). ‘Nuff said.
Mac Lowe ruined Black Cat’s character and brought back Mayday in a way he KNEW would piss people off and even admitted as much at a convention.
Guys, we don’t know if this will be a full on Reboot yet. We just know this is Battleworld and our status quo for now.
With Spider-Man I think Slott is too in love with his own shit and continuity to pull a mega reboot. This will likely have ramifications on the real Peter Parker as opposed to just being a married Spider-Man story for the sake of it. Lowe said this will resolve Peter’s love life issues but if this has jack to do with the normal Spider-Man how could this do that? At the same time if they were gonna pull a Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow with Spider-Man why do it with this AU version and not the 616 version, even the asinine post-OMD AU version?
Okay. I see where this is going. Baby and/or MJ endangered and/or killed, Spider-Man goes into revenge mode and brutalises/kills someone/comes very close to breaking his moral code. This prompts him to retire/renounce his family/realise he shouldn’t have had a family/make a deal with the Devil/some BS like that
The Civil War thing sounds fucking asinine considering how asinine the Civil War was in the first place.
And did they seriously doa comic called Hail Hydra due to an internet meme?
@13
Sure Michael, but…. spYder-man ???
The only comic on this list that I was half tempted to buy was RYV, just to see where they were going with the married Spider-Man…but then I saw that it’s written by Dan Slott, so I changed my mind. After seeing how he loves to troll the fanbase over the years, I don’t trust him at all to handle this…No thank you!
Thanks for saving me money again this month, Marvel!
@#9 RDMacQ — Fixed it for ya, Mac. 😉
@#11 jack — That’s exactly what I’m thinking will happen, too. And I believe for this story, Peter is going to kill Venom.
@#12 Markus Krenn — Perhaps, in the particular universe where Armor Wars came from before it became part of Battleworld, Peter Parker lost both his Aunt May and Uncle Ben to the burglar and was adopted by Ben Urich?
Peter Urich Spyder-Man ????
I predict Peter will kill someone with his bare hands to save MJ and/or his daughter. That’s the line.
@7 – I know, I should be right there with the rest of you, but for some reason I’m thinking that they intend this to be a “enjoy this one last story of a married Spidey because you’ll never see him married again after our universal reboot!” story. I don’t know why.
I mean, it’s Slott writing it, so unless he miraculously regains his Spider/Human Torch mini-series greatness I don’t expect much from RYV, but I expect it’ll be just average. Mostly because it won’t be laden down with the current (and awful) continuity of Slott’s storys.
I’ve tried posting my comments twice but they keep getting caught by the spam filter. Can someone fix that?
@#7-George Berryman- Well, it USED to. Under Wacker’s tenure.
He LOVED stirring things up, and doing things that would truly piss people off. Then he’d mock people for reacting strongly. He was a guy that continually sought out controversy wherever he could.
Lowe? Not so much. He really hasn’t done anything ever since he took over editorial reigns that could be considered “Pouring salt in the wounds.” Quite the opposite. He’s listened to the fans when it came to bringing back Mayday and in making Spider-Gwen and ongoing. And his style seems far less confrontational or outright dickish as Stephen Wacker’s.
And, really, if you think about it, what would be easier? Pouring salt in the wounds, or just leaving well enough alone? Marvel hasn’t referenced the marriage in five years? Why would they logically bring it up NOW, just to piss people off and mock them? What would be the point? Why go through that effort when it would be far easier just to tell another story?
I know we’ve been burned before, but that was when someone else- someone who proved to be a very negative, spiteful and hateful little man who took pleasure in attacking those that didn’t praise him or the work he was doing- was in charge of directing content in the books. I don’t know much about Lowe at this time, but he doesn’t seem to have the same habits as Wacker. From what we’ve seen, he seems more likely to hear people out on their concerns in regarding Spider-Man and his mythos than Wacker is, which means this might not be a “pouring salt in the wound” situation like we all fear.
@6 – I dunno, Craig. The Spider-office loves – loves – pouring salt in the wound.
I got a feeling that Renew Your Vows will not be offensive to those that like the Spider-marriage, it’s be a story that portrays the marriage and Peter and MJ well. But if Marvel is rebooting the universe (as it seems like they are doing) this is their one last time they will give us a married Spider-Man. After the reboot, it will (probably) be a younger Spidey and they will do everything they can to keep him forever young and never have him get old enough to get married.
Who knows? I could be completely wrong (Prove me wrong, Marvel!). But I feel like RYV will not include anything that will be like they saying “See! This is why he can’t be married!” But at the end they’ll be saying “I hope you enjoyed that, because now we’re rebooting everything and you’ll never see a Spider-Man that gets old enough to get married ever again.”
Or it could be that the reboot is just temporary (like Heroes Reborn) or it’s not happening at all. But it just feels like it’s gonna happen. Way to listen to your audience, Marvel!
I think the “controversy” is that they are touching on the marriage again, after avoiding it for five years and pretending it never happened.
Regardless of how you feel, simply bringing it up is going to ruffle some feathers. There’s probably just as many people concerned that the story will mean the return of the marriage than it does about insisting why it’s not feasible.
However, I don’t think the story we are going to get is that the story will “ram down our throats” why Peter shouldn’t be married. Marvel has had their way for five years, and there was no reason to go back to this story. And pretty much all the imagery we’ve had of Peter and MJ together in the solicits have been positive, as opposed to OMD which was showing their union accompanied by very traumatic images. So, I think it’s going to be more “This is why Peter and MJ are important” rather than “This is why Peter shouldn’t be married.’
” The most controversial Spider-Man story of the year continues! There are some lines Spider-Man won’t cross. Right?”
Yep. This is gonna be the third part in the OMD/OMIT trilogy, with Slott ramming down readers’ throats why Peter shouldn’t be married and especially not married to MJ.
Damn, MM: USM and 2099 are both gone, I’m interested in literally nothing here.
Hey the Silver Surfer is in charge of remaking the universe. So apparently Secret Wars is really all Dan Slott. Now I’m worried.
For ASM #20.1, “The crime landscape of New York City is changed from here on out”
Well, until Secret Wars transforms the Marvel Universe. Or after that when the Marvel Universe is rebooted.
