Marvel sent over some previews of Spider-Gwen #1. Will you be picking up the book?
She’s Back! Your First Look Inside SPIDER-GWEN #1!
This February, Marvel’s newest, sensational spider-woman is coming back to comic shops in the highly anticipated SPIDER-GWEN #1! Spinning directly out of the pages of the Amazing Spider-Man’s SPIDER-VERSE and the red-hot, sold-out Edge of Spider-Verse #2, is a new ongoing series that already has the whole comic industry buzzing! Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi all return to chronicle the adventures of the breakout character of 2014!
She’s Gwen Stacy. She’s smart, tough, and charming. She drums in a punk rock band and goes to high school just like you. Only she can lift a car and has spider powers! Just don’t tell her father, NYPD Police Chief George Stacy! But you knew all that already! What you don’t know is Gwen is back home following the events of Spider-Verse and you won’t believe what she’s got waiting for her!
“It’s a rare character that gets the public outcry that Spider-Gwen got,” says Senior Editor Nick Lowe. “From the sell-out of Gwen’s first appearance to the groundswell on Twitter we’re excited to bring more Spider-Gwen into the world with the creators who started it all!”
Now is your chance to get on board with the breakout character of the year as she makes her bombastic debut into her very own ongoing series. Don’t miss out when Gwen Stacy swings in to comic shops this February in SPIDER-GWEN #1!

This is a random question, but I’m sure many of you must know the answer. In one of the images in the preview above, Spider-man is holding a cell phone against his shoulder while he eats a sandwich. Isn’t one of his powers the ability to control at will the adhesive properties of his skin so that he can attach objects to it? I know that this was one of the powers emphasized in The Other in 2005, but I had thought that it wasn’t necessarily part of his newly augmented set.
Wait. I guess Silk is so powerful that just talking to her on the phone nullifies some of his abilities. Yeah, that must be it.

“A series that no one was demanding…”
Oh really?
How do you know that no one demanded more Spider-Gwen?
“Gwen Stacy and Slik both suck.”
Your opinion.
A series that no one was demanding, Gwen Stacy and Silk both suck.
she could just be called the “spider” by the public or spider-teen, white spider,or “arachnid”
Already pre-ordered the Campbell cover, but I want the Hughes one, too, even though it’s seemingly of the 616 incarnation!
@#5 She’ll be called Spider-Woman in the comic, but the title will still be Spider-Gwen, I believe
@4 – Yeah, but Marvel wants this title to be alphabetically in the S’s right next to all the other “Spider-” titles. Apparently I’m one of the few (?) people that haven’t read any Spider-Gwen appearances (besides ASM) – does she call herself “Spider-Woman”?
Although I have to admit, “Spider-Gwen” is great for marketing the character. “‘Spider-Woman’? Yeah, whatever. Wait, ‘Spider-GWEN’??? Like Gwen Stacey from the movies? I love Emma Stone! I have to check this out!”
Now the question is… will Gwen call herself “Spider-Gwen” or “Spider-girl/woman”? If Gwen uses the former name, she might have to deal with a bad identity crisis. I think she should call herself “Spider-lady” or something.
@#3: They could do what they did with No Adjective Spider-Man when they changed it’s name to Peter Parker: Spider-Man. Gwen Stacy: Spider Woman #1!
@2 – Well they can’t call her Spider-Woman, and there’s already a Spider-Girl in Spider-Verse so that would be confusing. Then again, there are over 1500 Spider-Man’s in this crossover so that’s no excuse. They just wanted to capitalize on the love the fans have for the Emma Stone portrayal of the character. But it is weird that the book is called Spider-Gwen and the character will never be called that in the book because it would defeat the purpose of a secret identity.
I cant believe they are actually calling the character Spider-Gwen.
Tentatively I will be picking this up, but I do so in support of this alternate version and the potentially interesting things they can explore with her. I don’t want Marvel (as apparently they did with Silk in the early issues of ASM V3) to interpret the popularity of this book as proof Gwen Stacy didn’t suck and/or should come back to life. Also I hope this doesn’t lead to more Gwen love because there’s been more than enough of that over the years and it’s to the point now where she’s overshadowing actually more important/better characters like MJ and Felicia
