Hey Crawlspacers. This is George, signed in at home on Marvel. com and following the special live press event coverage going down at the El Capitan theater in L.A. today.
Dan Slott may have hinted earlier that it is Spider-related. We’ll see!
UPDATE: 2:12 EST – Marvel Studios’ Kevin Fiege takes the stage. Introduces the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which has already debuted this week.
UPDATE: 2:15 EST – Joss Whedon is present with Fiege. EDIT: Apparently Whedon is via satellite from the UK.
UPDATE : 2:17 EST – Fiege wants to talk about Marvel Phase 3.
Captain America 3 will be released May 6, 2016 (Serpent Society related?)
Doctor Strange released on November 4, 2016
UPDATE: 2:20 EST – Watching ComingSoon.Net as well.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be released May 5, 2017 (video comment from director James Gunn)
Thor: Ragnarok coming July 28, 2017 (picks up immediately where Age of Ultron left off, with both Hemsworth & Hiddleston aboard)
And… BLACK PANTHER coming November 3, 2017!
May 4, 2018 (Skipping for now!)
CAPTAIN MARVEL (Carol Danvers!!) gets a movie july 6th, 2018!
INHUMANS, November 2, 2018!
Fiege is going back to the skipped May 4th, 2018 movie… shows a clip, Nick Fury, Avengers, Soul Gems (Apparently one is in Loki’s staff)… according to Coming Soon’s blogger Silas Lesnick they’re showing live-action footage of an Infinity Gauntlet, held by Thanos.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, Part One in 2018, Part Two in 2019.
Fiege & Whedon now showing an Age of Ultron scene (with no special effects).
They then reveal that the Captain America 3: Serpent Society title wasn’t real and that it is (as has been rumored) Captain America 3: Civil War.
Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. show up. Announce that Chadwick Boseman has been cast as Black Panther. He joins them on stage.
Black Panther concept art inserted at right. Black Panther gets an Easter Egg in Age of Ultron and will show up in full costume in Captain America 3. T’Challa will play a big part in Civil War.
Captain Marvel writer & director news coming soon. Casting will take much longer.
Fiege says Civil War movie will be “very different” than the comics. Also that it will deal with global superhero registration and will have a flashpoint event. Hulk & Black Widow will be in all Avengers movies; no plans for another standalone Hulk movie or a Widow standalone movie yet. Age of Ultron may possibly have Easter Eggs for the Inhumans as well, which we will find out more about very soon.
UPDATE: 2:53 EST – Someone asks Fiege about Spider-Man. He says it’s either “not true at all” or “something not ready to be announced yet.”
And that’s it. Below, nifty new logos!
–George Berryman!
New Logos Below!
I’m so freaking excited for the Captain Marvel movie!!! Well really all of them but that one in particular.
Thanks so much for posting those vids George. God, that teaser for Infinity War is so awesome!
#18: “… I was like a 15 year old girl at an Elvis concert.”
Hah. I can relate. 🙂
And again, Doc Strange: “Quantum Physics, String Theory, Parallel Universes.” I’m thrilled. And Benedict Cumberbatch could actually be a good fit. We’ll wait and see.
These movies all have such great potential. The Cap movies have been great thus far, so I trust the next one will be too. I am most excited about Thor & Black Panther.
@11 – I agree i don’t think Ms. Sackhoff will be selected. Let’s hope whomever they cast that she can ACT! Casting is so important.
As cool as it is to see the rest of these films announced, the Infinity War is the movie I’ve been waiting to see ever since Thanos popped up in the after credits scene in The Avengers.
And the fact that it’s going to be a two-parter is the icing on the cake. The Infinity Gauntlet is a comic so incredible that it absolutely deserves to be a multiple-part epic…hell, it could even be stretched to a trilogy.
Absolutely amazing.
@21 – Oh man, another great clip. Great moment when RDJr and Evans go to shake hands and Evans pulls his hand away.
I imagine when Boseman came out on stage and RDJr hugged him he whispered in his ear “Get ready.”
@15 – I would like to see a Spider-Man netflix show, I think with the right writers it would be really great.
I haven’t enjoyed the MCU movies as much as the majority, but yeah, these clips are damned great. Really pleased to see a Black Panther movie, my second favorite Marvel hero finally gets a solo film. I’ve heard good things about the guy who’s been cast as Panther too.
Another clip. Avengers 2 small scene and Downey Jr. & Chris Evans introduce Chadwick Boseman – the MCU’s T’Challa!
Correcting some of my earlier stuff.
Whedon was in attendance. Gunn was not; he was in Tokyo.
@15 – Irish, I don’t see how now. :/
@17 – Heck Craig, I was reading the live blog hours & hours ago, posting it here… felt good. But then when I watched that I was clapping & going crazy with every new title card they threw up. Doctor Strange! Black Panther! Carol! CAROL!!
Then the Infinity War part… my God, I was like a 15 year old girl at an Elvis concert. 😯
@16 – Ok, despite my natural cynicism and snarkiness about Marvel comics, I got chills during a lot of that clip. If I had been in that room I would have been yelling, cheering and fist-pumping along with everyone else.
(Avengers Infinity War clip ends, Kevin Feige walks back on stage)
Some guy from the audience: WE LOVE YOU!
Video of the presentation. Enjoy it before it is pulled.
hypothetically if they did have spiderman and given the number of spiderman movies in the last few year would it be a bit late to go the movie route to introduce him to the marvel universe at this stage for civil war in 2016, could tv or netflicks be a possibility?
Thor: Ragnarok comes out a day before my birthday. This pleases me.
@10 – I don’t think Slott would have any influence on a Spider-Man movie, he’s just a writer. I don’t know what characters or plot I’d like to see in a MCU Spider-Man movie, but I know for certain that I would like the origin story skipped completely, it’s been done to death.
@11 – I’m thinking that this Civil War will probably be closely tied with the secrets that came out during Cap 2.
I read on another entertainment news website that for the Cap: CW movie that Black Panther would be taking the place of Spidey in the CW storyline (even though they’ve said the CW movie storyline will be different than the CW comic storyline). Was this something that was announced at this press event, or just rumor?
The whole point of Spidey’s story in CW was that he was a long-standing superhero, one of the first, so his unmasking had a huge impact on the other characters. Having Black Panther be introduced in Avengers II and then suddenly be thrust into this pivotal role in CW seems like too much for a character they just introduced.
Then again, they just introduced the Falcon in Cap II and he was so awesome I’d be ready for him to do something major in his next movie.
Downey’s version of Stark is very anti-government, so he wouldn’t fit into Marvel’s twisted CW storyline. Actually, MCU Cap is going to be very suspicious of the government, also, given what happened in Cap2. So who would rep the government.
P.S. I predict Katie Sackoff will be considered too old. Marvel’s pattern is to seek up-and-comers who will work cheap (at least at the start). I would predict someone more like Saorsie Ronan.
@10 – Ah thanks. That’s put most of my fears to rest. I’d hate for them to turn Robert Downy Jr.’s very likeable Stark into the terrible fascist that was in Civil War, just for the sake of a accurate adaptation. If the Russ’s actually mange to make Civil War concept really good I’ll impressed.
That said I’m still skeptical about Spidey being at Marvel-Disney while Slott and Quesdada still have influence. If Marvel do get Spidey’s rights back, I’d prefer they did a good adaptation of Bendis USM or something.
The Russo Brothers have gone on record saying that Civil War as it is would just not work in the MCU. They’re just taking the name like they did with Age of Ultron and doing their own story that just so happens to feature Stark. It’s not going to be about registering secret identities, since no real heroes in the MCU HAVE them. It’ll be about accountability, given what happened in Avengers, Cap 2, and now Age of Ultron.
@1 – Now that a Civil War movie has been announced I don’t want him anywhere near the MCU. I can’t imagine anything worse than Spidey’s first MCU appearance being in the storyline that set him up for the terrible rut he is currently he’s in.
Excited about Black Panther, GOTG and Strange.
@4 Not just Spiderman, we need Marvel studios to make a Fantastic 4 movie with a proper Galactus and a Dr. Doom who’s a Theatrical Dictator of Latveria and You can rest peacefully George…well until Marvel gets Xmen back 😉
@5 Strange is the highlight for me too, however I don’t want an origin story. Flashback maybe. But Origin then Battle would would bore me. I just want the Dr Strange movie to be creating magic from the get go. I mean this in relation to the movie quality and the actual story.
The whole slate looks impressive. But to be honest, Doctor Strange is front and center for me. I hope they’ll take inspiration from JMS’s Strange more than anything else and take their time telling this origin story …
Also, I can’t picture Strange tying into the whole Avengers arc, whereas all the other movies seem to tie in nicely.
@1 – Probably, yes. It’s a double-edged sword.
Sony losing Spidey would mean an end to Spidey movies from a studio who thought the ASM2 script was the way to go.
Marvel getting Spidey movies would also mean current Marvel mentality for Spidey, which is very worrying. Remember, Quesada is still the CCO & has input in the films. BUT! The movies would at least be made with much more quality. The ASM2 script would’ve never flown at Disney Marvel.
Kate Sackhoff for Carol or don’t bother, perfect casting right there..
Black Panther is an unknown which I like
dissapointed Cap Is civil war.
More importantly Doctor Strange has a release date! Woot!
CAPTAIN MARVEL (Carol Danvers!!) gets a movie july 6th, 2018!….let the fan casting begin- katee sackhoff maybe?
strange there was no Spidey news, didn’t Slott say there would be? apparently he is as bad at writing tweets as he is at writing comics.
IS it hoping for too much that Sony has sold Spider-man back to Marvel?
